Hello :) Thank you so much for this :) I am going to share a bit of background of my situation and what this Land Rover means to me,and why.

I call it the Falcon (AKA the Millennium Falcon) Because as any who watches Star Wars knows, the Falcon is a hero to so many in that universe. This Land Rover is a hero to me. It is the ONLY vehicle I can drive physically and legally due to my disabilities. I have hand and leg disabilities and am in a wheelchair just about all of the time these days. So it gives me some independence. I can stand for very short times, and hobble only the length of my car, supported by it, and with my boot leg braces, my legs work just enough to still drive this car.

I also only have one working hand. My legs do not work and are not strong enough to work in other vehicles. This is largely due to the driving position of the disco, and how close the pedal is to the side wall (might not be great for so many, but is the perfect support platform for me and once it is safe again, I will be having a new driving assessment in it as to update and change driving modifications as I am an NDIS participant) Of course what comes with my disabilities, is not much in the way of an income. I am actually a fully qualified spray painter, but that was taken from me through disabilities.

I suffer from a Neurological condition very similar to MS, it is just a different part of my brain that has the damage in it. I also suffer chronic pain syndrome and this car is one I am always most comfortable in. I do not drive far or often like I once did, and as my car has been ageing, it is now almost at 415,000 kms!!

This wandering steering is becoming a thing that is making my car quite unsafe, but as I am unable to drive other vehicles, I am not able to not drive my car at all as I still have to get to medical appointments at the very least. Family do drive me when they can. I depend completely on this car. As I am rural too, I cannot use public transport because it doesn't come out this way and because I am not so good at self propel in my wheel chair right now enough to use a bus)

Its a thing I have not been able to find and fix at home which is what I do as I am never able to afford to take it to a mechanic - I have however, been saving ever so slowly! This car is so special to me that I cannot even put into words because it gives a gift of some freedom to be normal :) The current issue has been building for some time as the thread above shows, front wheel bearings have been replaced, engine mounts done. Have replaced the drive shaft too, none which made a difference to the problem.

I have owned this car for 7 years now, and its with me for the long haul :) I do worry that one day, I will not be able to drive at all anymore, but as long as my Disco lives, I can live well too :) And I hope to enjoy driving it again, and exploring places only it can get me. (And road tripping when COVID is over to meet all you wonderful Landrovians and the car that through this wonderful thing V8Ian has started, to bring a lot of people together, and gives them something to smile about in this dark time with current world events) I cried when found out about this, because life is such a battle, as it is for so many of us. It is such a positive thing, and an overwhelming surprise.

There are no words to describe how grateful I am, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you. I have been going through an exceptionally tough time recently, and this just really made me smile and light up inside. My car is also hanging in there! Fun bit of trivia, my car has actually been around on this forum even before me as a forum member owned it previously :) If there is anything I can do for anyone, to lighten up your day, please let me know!

Thanks for the kind words and background Epic Dragon but I'm only a small cog in a complex gearbox. It has taken over a month to get all the planets to align.
Firstly it had to get the OK from Incisor, that wasn't an issue, he gave the nod immediately. Then Epic Dragon had to agree, I could sense so many emotions in the reply, grateful appreciation, relief, disbelief, oh to have been a fly on the wall. [bighmmm]
Roverlord Offroad Spares came to the party early, offering whatever help they could.
Then the wall was impacted with, finding a mechanic/ workshop! Why do businesses bother to pay for a website, then ignore enquiries even when followed up with emails and phone calls?
Finally a mechanic agreed to have a go and Millennium Falcon is going in for a medical next week.
I'm sure Epic Dragon will share the results with us.

Thanks Dave, Mario and Heather, without your help this would never have gotten off the ground.

I'd like to thank all the people who have PMed me offering to donate parts, you know who you are. The car is going to be checked over next week, that will give us a more accurate idea of which way needs to be headed.
Thanks also to the people who have already bought tickets, without your support we'd be going nowhere.

I actually believe it was built very early 2000 according to the vin number as its Model year is Y (2000) but then the rest of those numbers are nearer to the end of that build range so I am estimating it is one from the second half of LR build year (June July) and was probably built in Jan 2000 [emoji848] that is as much as I know and understand though :)

There should be a plate on them giving you the month and year of the build ( not Aus compliance which is on the VIN plate)

that VIN is a 2000 my . educated guess around march-may, all parts except different frequency key and receiver from 99 my are interchangeable as is 2001 my.
compliance plate is on the inner guard below brake booster.

Epic , you are an inspiration , my sister in Scotland has something similar , she has constant and uncontrollable shaking, which has led to agoraphobia , she only weighs 38 kilograms , and won't leave the house , which under the circumstances mightn't be a bad thing, seeing our other sister, who lives in the same village , is going through day 9 of having the corona virus.

Ohh I hope your sister is ok [emoji3064][emoji3064] and gets through coronavirus ok. My family (apart from mum, dad, sis) are in England. I worry about them so much. We moved here in 92.
And your other sis, if she ever wants a pen friend who understands, I am here[emoji173][emoji173] the shaking is so uncomfortable. It causes muscle damage too. Upside is that it slows down/helps muscle wastage [emoji41] and is a self cardio workout! I believe it's why I'm still slim even though eat too much chocolate and and am sat down most of my life [emoji23] but chronic pain also helps

That is me, thankyou :) I have always loved photography and since I lost some drawing and painting abilities, photography has been a creative outlet. I suck at trying to run a business though but haven't given up. Its a hobbie really but hope to eventually make my own way income wise through it. I can share some of my photography here if you'd like. My sis does cosplay so I then try bring her things to life how she envisions it. Obviously its quite hard to even take photos with my issues. I even managed to take a self portrait for an assignment. (Havr been studying an online course in photography) I'll share it if anyone wants to see. I wore my school formal dress for it because even though back then I had plans for my future, and no disability. Life had a very different plan for me. But, the dress still fits, and I am still me :)
If anyone wants any photo edits or photos if you are in SA, please let me know :) I'll be fully mobile when my new wheelchair is here which isn't far off now!!!

Aww thankyou [emoji173][emoji173] :) I do have really bad days too and have made it through some very dark times over the years, including some more recently. But positive is something I always try to be :) my sis made me a wonder woman costume because she tells me I'm my own wonder woman. Im going to ride my horse in it and go full Amazon cool chick spec [emoji123][emoji123] I'm trying to learn to gallop again (used to often but then have had to learn to ride a whole different way. Its such an important part of my physical and mental well-being and onlu thing to survive from old life to this one) [emoji28] it will happen! My horse will be "I have GOT this. Hang on, going FAST" and I'll be enjoying the wind in my hair at light speed and thrn be bed ridden for a couple of weeks and it will be totally worth it [emoji108]

Also anyone local, please join me for a pub meal when covid stuff has passed and pubs are open again :)

I mostly photograph horses. But love photographing other things too. The flying ship one is my sister as Jaina Proud Proudmoore from world of warcraft. The 2a edit is Cobbers 2a I only took the outtaimage and the one onleftin this and stolethe other from him (he's one of my very best mates so made this for him- I know you come in here Cobber [emoji23]) did a fire engine one too for the squad my now ex partner was in for mfs training. Made that into a print and gifted it to the mfs.
The purple dress one is my self portrait as mentioned above. I know I'm not smiling in it but was a serious assignment [emoji1787] I have oodles of images I've taken :) im waiting for a nice dewy winter morning as there is a place near home that is magical at sunrise on those mornings and I wish to capture it.

Thats the list if it's poorly bits :) does anyone know where I may be able to source a new/replacement radiator? :) https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200504/339cb4502cade4719ae6c0e188cca843.jpg

That's a good list for a D2 with those k's , that model doesn't have bumper brake lights ( they are extra tail lights for fog ) and the dim tail light will just be one of the wedge globes ( they have 2 ). Land rover workshop ? surprised the lower ball joints are still good .
Other stuff inc radiator shouldn't be a problem

I was sure that the bumper lights have only ever been indicators, ill let them know that they are not actually brake lights when it goes back :)

Thing is Ian, Mario is crook, as you know, and he and Heather come up trumps every time. I'm not even sure Mario gets to go fishing these days. There is a Yiddish term that describes them both ( not sure of the feminine, Heather ), and it is Mensch. Roverlord are Mensch.

John, I'm aware that Mario is struggling at the moment. I always stress to Mario and Heather, when l place an order, that it can be done at their convenience. The delivery is still prompt.
There a any number of retailers supplying Land Rover parts, but none that can compete with Roverlord Off Road Spares, for service, value or quality. Roverlord is always my first go to business for Land Rover parts.

Yep, I know you know, Ian. I have recommended Roverlord to OS people. I don't know if that ever connected.

Thing is, Mario and Heather live 5 mins from me, and I would help them in any way I can, and they NEVER ASK. They do what they do.... They help folk wherever those folk are. I personally doubt that there are better people on this place.

I went fishing once. On the Hawkesbury. Caught a catfish. In 1974. That was enough to say 'been there, done that'.

What I am a bit puzzled about is that none of the stuff mentioned has a direct effect on the steering instability that Epic Dragon needs fixed.

Was the mechanic tasked with examining the various bushes and steering links that could affect this?

It would be hopeless if all these things took the funds and she still has a problem with the steering instability.

The dodgy left wheel bearing seems to be the only steering related problem.

Im no expert , but wouldnt the low pressure power steering hose that has rubbed thru on the block have direct effect on the steering ?

Throw in the wheel bearing and possible the shocks moving in the mounts ( if that actually means much ) and it could all contribute to the fault.

Reading the link posted in the first post , It say's most of the bushes etc had already been checked .

I think you have hit the nail on the head :) there is a quite a bit of movement in the shock mounts, and the wheelbearing (that one was only replaced within the last couple of years [emoji33] but badly it turns out [emoji3064]) These 2 things are what are making the weird noises evidently. With how bad the radiator is, I have been doing well keeping it topped up :O the gurgling noise ive been hearing is from that radiator and its literally rotten to the core-ness [emoji28] i had been wondering why my heater wasn't so warm recently and this is the likely cause I suppose LOL.

I'll ask the obvious question - any chance of the local TRS for example donating or contributing towards a radiator?

My SIL who is also an artist sometimes barters her paintings 'cos few want to pay a fair price for her work.

I know I'm highjacking, but Epic Dragon will enjoy this. For those with an artistic bent - check out this site Jana Vodesil-Baruffi (http://www.janavodesil.com)

The low pressure hose is a 20 min job, rear pads only , about 30 mins incl bedding in /test drive, and the radiator can be anything up to 3 to 4 hours if you have issues with bracketry, removing grille, disconnecting trans cooler lines , wiring/driving lamps atc etc.

I have two deposits that I cannot attribute to the payee.
Neither have filled out the description window.
The first one I have an idea who it was because they sent a PM.
The second has sent no PM or filled out the description window. This could well have been done deliberately, the depositer wanting to make a donation only. I have ways of dealing with donations.
The reason I haven't posted an update of the spreadsheet, is because that would show the unattributed amounts.
The thread is in General Chat, meaning any one, anywhere in the world could PM with "Sorry, I forgot to fill in the Description window, those anonymous tickets X to Y are mine."
You people are putting a lot of faith in me, I want the accounting to be beyond reproach. If anyone should want to see the deposits and withdrawals, thats fine with me, I need the books to be transparent and easy to scrutinise and understand. Anonymous deposits leave a window of doubt, no matter how honourable or well meaning.
AULRO member, could you please contact me, I can accommodate your desires.
Thank-you all, this is an outstanding effort.

Also learnt that dad will have to drive my car to the mechanic when it goes back as the hole in mine (I can just about get my little finger in it [emoji33]) leaks extremely fast so my steering is extremely heavy with the lack of power steering fluid now in the system [emoji23] might last long enough to make it to the place from home when top it up though [emoji1696] :)

I just contacted Pirtek down at Lonsdale here as I'll get some of the hydraulic hose if so. I emailed them because it's so hard to talk on a phone and take notes at the same time [emoji23] also because coverage extra bad here today.
Hopefully they have some, and can work with me by posting it because otherwise I need to find a lift down to them.
I am about to test how long power steering fluid lasts as havr to drive 10 min to collect a bale of hay. I have RAA should it leak out to point it is right now and is pretending it does not have power steering [emoji33] I am optimistic to make it home though due to the fact it got me home from the mechanic with the clean finger sized hole which is half hour away [emoji41]

Despite telling Mario and Heather to process the order at their convenience, the parts have been organised promptly, as is usual from Roverlord Off Road Spares, thank-you both your effort is much appreciated.
Due to the size and weight of the bits, they cannot be sent to Leonie's post box. Transport will be delivering them direct to Adelaide Hills Mechanical and Tyre Service. That will at least remove a hazard for the good folk (and Des [wink11]) of Adelaide Hills, negating the need for a strange woman in a wheelchair, trundling up the footpath, trying to balance half a ton and ten cubic metres of quality Land Rover on her lap. Philip, your prize was ordered on 12/05/20, on 15/05/20 I received notification of posting and the tracking number.
As of 16/05/20 this is the status:

When tracking my item, what does 'pending - no events yet' mean?
The tracking status 'pending – no events yet’ means that the item hasn’t been scanned yet.

This could be because it:

hasn’t been posted yet, OR

was part of a bulk mailing where items have been posted over the counter in bulk but not scanned yet

Visit our tracking service (https://auspost.com.au/using-our-tracking-service) to see what stages in the delivery journey are captured for different services.

Please try tracking your item again in 24-48 hours.

It has been sent registered mail, so you'll need to sign for it. Hopefully, it will arrive early next week.

Mechanic is collecting my car tomorrow afternoon, saves him some time on Monday morning, as he is close by tomorrow so makes it easier for him :) I am already getting anxious as I get nervous when others drive my car without me hahaha. Its to do with it being the only car I can drive, and I feel quite sick when its not with me, and I worry if something happens to it. At least if I break it, I only can blame myself hahahaha. Have to be a big cold chisel to go through an entire hub!
More likely lots of penetrating oil down the groove in the splines.
I don't really understand why the difficulty as they can remove the whole hub and axle assembly as one and put it in the vice and whack the end of the axle, and be very very quick to catch it.

Good news, Epic Dragon's car is finished and will be delivered back to her today.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank and recommend Michael from Adelaide Hills Mechanical and Tyre Service in Bridgewater for going above and beyond in his dealings with the repairs. Michael has been sympathetic with the billing hours and performed exra work, found during the requested repairs, at no extra charge.
I would urge anyone in the locality to support the business that supports the less fortunate in our community. Thank-you Michael, you're a true gentleman.

On a sadder note, the fund raiser came up $295.50 short of the invoice amount. At this stage Epic Dragon will have to find the difference, not an easy ask for someone on a fixed, low income, with no opportunity to increase their income.
If anyone should want to chip in, to make up the difference, the raffle account mentioned in the Opening Post can be used. I will ensure that the money is transferred to Epic Dragon. She's also out of pocket for the initial inspection and some parts sourced locally.

Hi, So glad your D2 is back up and kicking!

Can I just ask, and your post prompted it but nothing personal, for future reference, that all people in general with known leaks from their vehicles please do not drive them.

Spraying fluids all along roads is a great way to kill or cause serious injury to people like myself when we’re out on our motorbikes.

Something I ask people to consider.

I have my wheels in all places [emoji7][emoji7] just got home with my wheelchair [emoji7][emoji7] picture of first sit (before any tweaking of footplate level and armrest height)
Its so absolutely perfect [emoji7][emoji7][emoji7][emoji7]
Also attached pic of it next to the one ive been borrowing for a few months which has been such a wonderful chair.
Annnd the motor attachment that goes on mine that gives me the ability to regain independence [emoji7][emoji7]
Still have a rack for the free wheel attachment, and a second set of wheels to come with wider, chunkier tyres for the outdoor things I love (Like 4wding and camping!! OK, the fund raising venture is closed, thanks to to the generosity of you kind and generous folk.the final figure has overshot by about $150. The initial inspection revealed that the starting battery was on its last legs. Epic Dragon said that her priority was the steering, the brakes and leaking radiator were also more pressing than the battery. There are now funds to replace the battery.
There are options, below, on what to do with the excess money, what are the thoughts of the community?

1) Replace Epic Dragon's battery. :BigThumb:
2) Pay the extra to AULRO as since Covid, advertising revenue has plunged. [bighmmm]
3) Put the money toward V8Ian's flex plate repair. [wink11]

I'm disappointed, but not entirely surprised. [bigsad]

I took the hint before I dropped the hint, calling Michael from Adelaide Hills Mechanical and Tyre Service, on Friday arvo. If he doesn't have the right battery, he assures me that the auto sparkie next door will have.

Any support for a raffle to buy me a new pair of thongs? :Rolling:

That wasn't part of the deal Justin! :bat:
I believed you were letting me have it at your cost, a gesture I truly appreciated.
You said you would give me your bank details when you got the invoice. I feel cheated!
I spent a couple of enjoyable hours on the phone to Rick this morning, he didn't have anything good to say about you, either. :tease:
Thank you Justin, I am genuinely grateful of your hospitable gesture. The spirit of the AULRO community never ceases to amaze me.
"Forward favours rule! Keep them going." A lesson learned from Blknight_Aus. :BigThumb:

The plate arrived on Friday, I'll take it, with the ATF to Shane at SBL on Monday. The car was booked in and delivered on Thursday but on arrival there was no space in the workshop. This didn't overly concern me and I told Shane that understood how the best laid plans of mice and men went in a workshop environment.
So far I'm impressed with SBL. Like you Justin, he's not just a mechanic, he's a passionate enthusiasts of the marque. I was particularly impressed with his wife's 90 and its custom, monogrammed leather seats.
Again Justin, many, many thanks. Is there any truth to the rumour that you'll soon be visiting Queensland?

There was no CentreLink when I lived at Inala in the early Sixties.

Ron, no Centrelink anywhere then. Pensions claims were made at a post office and unemployment claims made at the Commonwealth Employment Service.

Inala has mellowed since then, Ron. It was an awfully rough suburb. Probably no pub then. Even Riverview has mellowed.

Everyone had jobs in the 1960's but the unemployment shock of the mid 1970's ripped the heart out of tough working class suburbs like Inala and Woodridge. They changed from proud blue collar suburbs to welfare ghettos.

Thongs are footwear and footwear alone.
When my son was a young bloke, I took him to Melbourne, to see the big smoke for his first time. We parked the truck in Bourke Street and walked back to Myers. Neither of us could work out why everyone seemed to be staring at us, til Ben pointed out that we were the only people wearing thongs.
I bet I couldn't find a space ,in Bourke Street, these days to park a semi.[biggrin]

At Inala Centrelink the uniform for male unemployed used to be mismatched thongs, Stubbies shorts with hip pocket half ripped off and a copy of Best Bets shoved in, and a coloured singlet. At Woodridge it was no shirt, long trousers, bare feet.[bigwhistle]
