I use Siri all the time as you describe. Phone calls are easy, messaging can be interesting. If messages are short you are usually ok but longer messages often get cutoff if you stop speaking for more than a short moment. Sometimes misinterprets words and it can be difficult to get them right.

Hi Rob, I use Siri and can’t comment on anything else.

One of the main reasons I bought my 2007 Range Rover was because I was doing very high milage and they were starting to get tough on phone use.

The RR was supposed to have a voice operated phone system, but like most things on my RR, it never worked from new.

I finally got hands free phone use when my daughter put me onto an iPhone with Siri.

If you haven’t had a chance to play with Siri, well my first try was different.

I didn’t know you had to instruct Siri to do what ever you needed it to and I simply spoke “hey Siri” and waited for it to do something.

When it didn’t respond, I thought out loud “ you unless bloody heap of Sh..” and it instantly replied. “That is inappropriate language”

I was hooked!

I learn something new to use Siri for all the time.

Siri can text form you hands free and read texts no dramas but I still wouldn't recommend texting more that "ok" or similar as it does still take your attention off the road.

With my altered work arrangements I acquired some AirPod Pros so I don’t need to hold the bloody phone all day.

Using Siri I can control all the functions, email, sms, music [emoji6]

And no background noise is a good thing! (It also has a pass thru function for safety)

The AirPod Pro has noise cancellation.
It makes for peaceful listening.

If in a place where being unable to hear the outside world
Could be dangerous eg. Driving, jogging etc. you can have the pods ‘pass’ the outside ambient sounds through as well.

In practice you can basically hold a conversation with someone with them in.

Rob, once you have your iPhone, go and search YouTube for Siri how-to vidieos.

It’s an easy way to learn how to get the best from your phone.

Wife has her iphone paired to her work car and uses siri all the time for calls and texts. No issues there.
I used to commute on the treadly up until this lockdown and used the Aftershokz headset to do same on my iphone. Wind noise confused the heck out of siri and was the only drawback. It was so easy to receive calls and read texts while hands free. In the car is much better either paired to stero or with the headset. Can still hear the outside world while wearing using headset. It is extremely comfy and the bone conduction works better than I expected.
Titanium - Wireless Bone Conduction Headphones - AfterShokz (https://aftershokz.com/products/titanium)

I also use the quadlock case for my iphone both in the car and on the bike. So easy to use and rock solid attachment.
Car Kit - All iPhone Devices with optional Wireless Charging Head - Quad Lock(R) Australia (https://www.quadlockcase.com.au/collections/shop-drive/products/car-kit-all-iphone-devices)
The have samsung cases too so you're covered either way if you get one of those.
