There have been many things said about the longevitey and footprint of solar cells and wind generators .
This info from a trusted renewable energy information source puts 4 major criticisms to rest.
Solar panels generate the energy required to build themselves in 1-2 years of operation, depending on type of panel and location, and their lifetime is about 20 years; large wind turbines in 3-12 months, depending on size of turbines and location, and their lifetime is 25-30 years.
Renew Economy.
These products are on the continuous improvement list as everyone knows and will only improve.
eg, when solar cells were first being offered to everyone their efficiency was 4%.....Improvements in design now have solar cells at 20% efficiency.
