So...it appears that the 4wd lads have discovered the benefits of air suspension with vids of air suspension kits being fitted to LCs and Patrols appearing on the net and being talked about as the latest got to have...inc Red Winch...Superior Arms..Fox Shocks..Bead Locks..etc etc

And they rave about the benefits eg you can have 3 settings...car park...drive and extreme.

Is this the same crew who rubbished EAS on LRs for years??

How times change🙄

I am really showing my age now😃

The same duds that thought 4 wheel disc brakes and coil suspension on the GQ was a revelation.

By chance spoke with a fabricator who had installed a kit in a GU for a customer and said the car handled like poo. He said the problem is that the air bags have seperate shocks that are impossible to tune...and unlike LRs the car and suspension is not compatible/properly designed.

Anyhow he said it's the latest suspension to have and at least may keep the cops at bay by being able to lower an otherwise illegal looking car and be able to enter multi storey carparks.

Cost: around 7k he said🤤

Oh and NSW have now limited GVM upgrades in line with maker's ratings which means most of the HD kits sold by Lovells. ARB etc will become illegal. This is sure to impact heavily on caravanners wishing to upgrade eg LC200s and the like for load/towing...pushing up costs significantly if for eg axles have to be upgraded or certification sought from the maker.

Umm,thats not quite right,have a look at this.

Seems the pen pushers have nothing else to do than invent some rule then realise the have cocked up.
The number of times this happens is ridiculous.

Thanks Paul..I'll pass this on to the shop that told me. They also do LC200 chops and have basically been told Tas won't approve them...pity cause it keeps 3 blokes busy. One WA potential buyer was also told recently he could not register a chopped 200s in WA even tho it was approved in Tas. They've cancelled buying any more new 200 series as a result.

Tassie authorities have become less and less willing to improve such vehicle mods..hence some owners go to favourable states for mod approval. But as my son found our..one cop told him to go drive in Vic cause that's where the mods were approved.

Seems like states are comparing notes on tightening mod laws. Hopefully the power of the industry will get some sway after all it's a massive employer in Aus.

Would love to fit eas to my patrol, but unfortunately its to hard.

So the guy that fit it to his GU, did he change the shocks to suit? Valving is completely different amd tricky to work out.

Yes they did..not sure which ones they went to but I recall he said they were fully adjustable so they just kept trying different setting..driving it etc etc. But in the end he said it still handled badly. They also swapped out the rear bags cause the ones supplied did not work well..something to do with the piston design??

And QLd had other ideas and left everything as it was.[bighmmm]

As we all know there needs something to be done at national level,so all the states and territories have the same rules.But unfortunately that will probably never happen.
The system and rules ATM are a joke.

And as for EAS,the Jap manufacturers have said they have stayed away from it for reliability reasons.
Although some models have had it on the rear for a while.
The Japs use other systems,such as what is in the Lexus,hydraulics.,etc.

In fact many of the issues on here with late model LR's are EAS issues.
I have had more EAS issues with my D4 than anything else.

But i must admit it is a brilliant system and works well.

What ****es everyone off is that the state's sat down, worked out a set of rules for modified 4wd's, agreed to them and then wouldn't implement them.
I really do think it was a case of 'not invented here' syndrome

There was nothing off the shelf long enough to suit.

They fitted it with linear variable displacement transducers (LVDT's) and a data logger to get the valving right.

Pretty sure air bag man does a full kit the the Y62.
