Hey folks,
Are Defender 90's with the 300TDi engine rare in Australia?
I am a Disco guy but have thought of getting a defender, but the 90 with 300TDi i don't seem to see anywhere for sale?
I'm kind of keen to get a fix 'er upper and work on it in my spare time [bigsmile1]
Thanks!

I am pretty sure that the 300Tdi Defender was never sold in Australia. Neither was the 200Tdi, nor the earlier Landrover 90. A few TD5s were, and quite a few Puma engined ones.
There will be a few about that originated as personal imports.
The vast majority of four wheel drives (not just Landrovers) sold in Australia were long wheelbase even before the end of Series production.

It will be a private import as we only got the TD5 and puma.

That's a shame [bigsad] It explains why i never see them around though.
I guess if i wanted a defender i would have to settle for a 110 - as there is a few of them around for sale with the 300TDi...
I'm concerned that the turning circle and nimbleness of a 110 would be poor in comparison with my disco which is a 100" wheelbase from memory.

I have a 90 and 110 300tdi. The 90 is more nimble, and my wife does drive it as if it is a hot hatch and she moans the 110 has a lardy arse compared to the 90.

But the 90 does not have much room in them at all. So for touring and with a family a 110 is a must.
The Defenders also have a different set of transfer gears to your Discovery, so will drive a bit different.

My town car is a 110, but I have driven my grand daughter's Disco a bit, and I do not find the Disco more nimble except when parking, and not noticeably then - I think the reason for not noticing any real advantage for the Disco is that the driver visibility is better on the 110 - you can see the corners better, and the pillars are narrower.

Ok thanks! I drive lots of offroad tight twisty overgrown tracks down here and notice that the disco is way easier than some longer 4wds to negotiate around them.
I think i would have enough space to turn a 90 into a tourer as its just myself and the girlfriend that tour around in my Disco.
Anyone know of any 110s for sale at the moment? Doesn't really matter what condition it's in, as long as it's still registered.

Yep, as far as I know, All are private imports. They're certainly pretty rare and do tend to be objects of interest. Fun to drive and easy to park. Ideal for just two travellers.

I drove round the eastern half of Australia with my brother in a S2 88 in 1964, but all my travelling since then has been in a lwb. I would probably find the shortie a bit short on space these days.
