Something strange going on here....
after many months of 24/7 operation, both my F@H machines have, well, stopped folding.
its was like they've run out of things to do---
So I tried a reboot and both would beep but no bios screen
I had to remove both graphics cards from one before it would even open the bios....
a fresh win 10 and F@H install produced the same result.
on this one, even though the internet is already connected (tested) if I open the F@H app the telstra house modem login page appears,,
other brower tabs can be opened and used.
both PC's were running Avira, behind a switch(also connected to a NAS and 3rd non f@h PC,) behind a wifi range extender, behind said telstra modem.

On the machine "untouched" I now get a full width one line banner under my bookmark toolbar saying I must login to this network before I can access the internet,, so I press ok and a the word success appears top left of screen,,, the url for this is detectportal.firefox.com/success-----

A reset of the house modem has rid us of the login problem,,
The PC I've reset still wont start with both graphics cards installed,,
or just one, in either slot..
but..
If I run the PC graphics off that graphics card rather than the CPU, the things runs fine.
even F@H recognises it....

confused yet? [bigrolf]

Both cards back up and folding. PC running of graphics card.
Do you think Gods just having a laugh?
the first cold snap and he stops my "saving the world" HEATERS from running? 900Watt's is nothing to sneeze at..

Yes. It's like seti @ home
A large number of small computational machines can contribute as much a one large supercomputer, and possibly more. Particularly if the problem is "embarrassingly parallel". It also can be cheaper as HPCC time can be expensive.

Just to put it in perspective--
Currently F@H PC's do more calculations per second than all the worlds SUPERcomputers combined.
re-built PC now folding fine on all 6 cores,,
the two 4gb AMD R9's each fold around 4 times faster than the 4core i5 3470
I guess I have to rebuild the other..
does seem weird.

Both machines folding away merrily,
Back door shut.. should be warmer in here tonight. [bigrolf]
Conclusions?
Whatever it was affected both machines at the same time,, but not my main PC, though all 3 run the same antivirus , run through the same switch, use the same version of Windows, to the same modem.
The standout difference is , well, folding.
