Lower shock mounts flogged out

Hi
Need more help from the Defender faithful .
Justed pulled my 96 130 rear Shocks out.
Been incorrectly installed and maintained by previous owner.
The lower mount holes are flogged out.
Fitting new Koni Heavy Track. What can be done to repair?

just had the same thing on my 97 130, but not to that extent. What i did with my mate who can weld was to line up a lower shock washer in the right orientation and spot weld it in place. He then welded up the top of the bracket using the washer as a guide. fitted top washer and fitted shocks no issues. did both sides no issues.

As above. Weld in a thick shock washer over the elongated hole

I did the same. Welded a thick washer in there, years ago.

After repairing the holes and when fitting the new shocks, ensure that they a torqued up correctly.
I'm not sure what the setting is off hand but it is surprisingly high and I think that not applying (and maintaining) sufficient torque is what causes the damage that you now have to repair.

You need the washers with the locating flange sitting either side of the lower mount (with the the flanges meeting in the hole) to prevent this problem.

Most these days are thin and made of cheese.

On a lifted RRC the lower rear mounts are well out of alignment with the shock pin, but the problem is easily fixed using Toy cups with flanges for location. They are thick and zinc plated and have lasted well over 100k kms on my POS. I have them on the lower fronts as well.

If you don't want want to pay over $6 each for genuine [bawl], go to a 4WD accessory place where they will have buckets of used ones. I got mine for nothing. [bigrolf]

You may have to enlarge the stock hole in the mount very slightly to get them to fit.
