About an hour ago had a noise sufficient (through double glazed windows) to get me rushing onto the verandah. It is a black night, but something multiengine turboprop flew over, no lights, but from the sound, estimate it was in the valley 300m east of here and about the level of the house travelling N->S. Would have been less than 200ft above the ridge at the top of the valley. Guessing a C-130 doing low level training.

We get lots of those, and Spartan’s the twin engined smaller aircraft and the odd Blackhawk.

Even at night they are lower enough to check the tyre pressure as they pass over head. But we are in a low flying area just north of RAAF Richmond.

The more annoying thing is them sitting on the apron all hours of the night with the engines running.

Hi,
The barracks at RAF Tenga (Singapore) was not far from the runway.
Night flying with Lightnings taking off drowned any conversation for a few minutes.
In retrospect, probably would fall foul of OH&S specs.
Cheers

There has been a lot of very low flights by planes around Stuart Town and Mumbil in the last couple of months. Flying grids checking for geology (Gold mainly I believe) - might be related?

Won't be related to geophysical airborne surveys - these are always done in VMC in daylight, and they don't use multiengine turboprops.

No, I am sure that it was military training.
