anyone purchased one of those winches going on ebay? If so, are they
any good & do they fit ARB winch bars? I dont get out as often as i would like & therefor wonder if it is worth paying big bucks for a top-shelf unit....
...& with the cash I save I can shove one on the back as well. :D

I know a couple of people that have bought the Chinese winches. So far they have not had trouble but they don't use them much. Just remember they are not as powerful as they make out. You probably need a 12tonne to be the equivilent of the Warne 8T.

I'd suggest you download the Autumn edition of "4wheelingOz" or click the link below:

And give the winch test a good read....

Hi gofish, just invest in a good quality hand winch, if you dont get out much they are the way to go, less weight, none that hangs over the front end and when you arent using it you can take it out which save economy. Sure a hand winch is more hassle to get out and pack up but there is less maintenance and they are more reliable. Matt

I agree hand winches are great. I was also looking at them (initially) until I saw the prices on ebay. I have a pretty crap back & knowing how "easy" hand winches are to use I thought for the same price an ebay one could be the go......but maybe not :(

Ton??? you means pounds, Personally i'd buy an X9 or similar for the extra 400, well actually i'd buy a second hand high mount, cause all low mounts are pieces of poo with lots more internals to fail (i've stripped quite a few), but then you'd have to mod your bar a touch, but you'll get a good second handy for around 800, cheap winches are *****s, the fairlead holes aren't the same as the mounting and the engage/disengage jigga can't be rotated so it can end up in a **** spot

If you have a crook back then that is a different story. I remember at the 4x4 Australia expo last year they were selling hand winches with recovery kits (i.e. straps, gloves, shackles etc) for around the $500 mark.

If that is the case save the dollars and buy a Magnum winch from ARB, comes from the same factory as warn and a fe hundred dollars cheaper. Matt
