Various electrical questions and a good auto elec installer in Perth?

Hi guys,

Completed my interim 7500km service on the long weekend using the evacuation method. First time and very happy. 5.9L out, 5.9L in.

I've got a growing list of a some auto electrical installations that I need someone in Perth to install for me, namely:

1. Llams kit; (purchased from a fellow forum member and ready to install)
2. Traxide kit + dual battery; (still to purchase)
3. Change the rear Disco trailer plug from round to square to match my Jayco Swan Outback
4. Continue the rear Anderson plug and Tow Pro wiring from rear of car to Jayco Swan Outback

Any suggestions for an auto electrician in Perth that could install the above for me?

Also, regarding the traxide kit, which kit is most suitable for my D4? I want to run my Evakool fridge in the rear of my D4 and therefore need an aux battery and a rear cig plug.

BeeGee, if you are competent enough to learn to change the oil by the evac method then you should have no problems with 1. and 2. Seriously, just take your time and follow the instructions and you'll be surprised how straightforward both installations are.
Re 3. I would counsel against changing the D4 plug. Just use a link connection. They're about $30.
Re 4. Dunno. But someone here will.

Re Traxide. Why not get the D4-5U? It includes the Anderson plug connection for the trailer. But talk to Tim as he will advise the optimum setup for your trailer batteries.

1. It’s a plug and play setup, you just need to drill a hole for the switch. Easy for home DIY.
2. Tim’s kits are again ready to go, with good installation instructions. Easy for home DIY.
3. I’ll assume your Jayco has a 7 pin plug. In which case it would be quicker and easier to fit a large 7 pin plug to the Jayco to plug straight into the D4. This is what I did with my camper trailer. Easy for home DIY.
4. I don’t quite understand what you actually want to do here. Does your Jayco already have electric brakes? Does your Jayco already have an Anderson plug?

Which Traxide kit, if you want an Anderson connection for you Jayco neither of your suggested ones would suit. You would want D4-5S | TRAXIDE - RV | Traxide - RV (http://www.traxide.com.au/diy-dual-battery-kits/land-rover-dbs-kits/discovery-4-dbs-kits/d4-5s.html) as this includes the extra wiring for the Anderson connection to the rear of the D4.

Interesting. Last one I saw was inside.
What they use to do and what they now have in their video is quite different.

They have now decided to use the cheap and shoddy method of running the cabling under the D4, along the chassis.

This is a No-No because when the D4 ( and D3 ) needs work done on the motor or turbos, they lift the body off the cassis and while the D4's own wiring has a plug in it to allow for easy disconnection, any after market wiring, like theirs, is simply ripped apart.

As you posted, if they use to do it correctly and now choose the easy elcheapo method????????????????????????

I'm confident I could install #1 and #2 myself, just time poor so was looking for the easy way out.
After a good chat with Tim from Traxide on the phone this morning I may give it a crack myself.
My Disco4 currently has an existing Anderson plug but it runs through the chassis rail before daylighting at the rear. It may be better to get the full Traxide D4-5S kit which includes the Anderson to the rear running inside the vehicle instead. Tim advised that the D4-5U kit is only required if I have a winch or intend to install a winch in the future, which I don't, so can stick with the D4-5S version.

My Jayco Swan Outback currently does not have an Anderson plug so it must rely on charging my Jayco battery (Fullriver 120Ah) via the existing 12 pin flat plug.
I'm therefore inclined to:
1. Install an Anderson plug on my Jayco and run it straight to my battery with a 50A circuit breaker near the battery; and
2. Change/standardise my Landrover round plug to a 12 pin flat plug to match my Jayco.

After my discussion with Tim I am looking to purchase and install an SSB HVT-D50 60Ah ($262 Goodchilds) aux battery in my Disco (rather than the Optima D34 55Ah, $329).

I welcome any further feedback on those that have been down this path, especially those that have optimised their van electrics to their tug.

The installation of LLAMS & my Traxide system are the only two things where I have EVER come in under the suggested time that it should take - and both were by a significant margin too. Both have great sets of instructions and are a credit to the guys concerned. :thumbsup:

I ordered the Traxide D4-5S kit off of Tim which should be on its way. I didn't really read the scope of the kit but just reviewed it and it does say it comes with battery brackets and hold down bolts.
