Drivers side where the shaft comes in from the steering wheel. How big a deal is this?

How’s the level in the reservoir? These things can weep a little for years with no problem if you are consuming negligible fluid over time. The dealer might suggest it needs rebuilding or replacement but buy a bottle of PS fluid and just keep an eye on it.

This D4 hasn't done a lot of km's in the 12 months since it last was in the care of a mechanic, and the power steering reservoir is still close to the max fill line. So hopefully it's something I can just live with.

It's going for a service later this month... MR Auto must have had a rush of customers with the easing of covid restrictions, the next available was four weeks away from when I called.

Mate of mine inherited an old but classic sporty car in mint condition with almost negligible kms off his grandmother. Everything and I mean everything leaked like a sieve once he started to daily drive it. Beware of barn finds.

My wife’s previous car had a PS leak for about 10 years requiring a very occasional top up.

Mine was found to be seeping a little 6 months ago and was told it needed to be replaced. The resovior was down a couple of caps worth, so i purchased a bottle of the fluid from LR. I continued to check weekly and checked it last night, with the resovior still at the same level as it was when i filled it 6 months ago. I havent noticed any difference in the feel or noises and no more leaks, so im not going to do anything about it.

I have some genuine fluid here that you can top up, without having to buy a bottle @ $90. Let me know of you want to top it up.

Our D4 was the same..down a little when we bought it..slight evidence of a weep on LHS end of rack..topped it up and 8 months later it's not moved. Steering seems to be working okay...but wife reported a slight judder feeling when manouvering at idle in a car park. I've not felt it tho so may have been the road surface...or loose gravel.

Anyhow I'm not concerned.

These are normally pretty leak free, yours looks like a slight weep from the upper line fitting. Just check that it’s not engine oil leaking onto it from the front crank seal or front lower sump. Flushing the system is pretty easy, just be careful with the reservoir, the plastic does get brittle.
