Hi
Read alot on here about Vacuum pump change on a Tdi 300.
Anyone got any tips, doesn't look the easiest to get to.
Are two gaskets the go?
Do you need to tdc number 1?
What's the easiest way to do this?
Want to have a go, that's how you learn.

Pretty straight forward, if your lazy just start loosing the bolts, if its under pressure wind the engine over with a ratchet on the crank bolt, till the pump isnt under pressure. The pump runs of a cam, same as the fuel pick up pump, when the cams in the wrong position the cam lobe is pushing on the pump. Making it harder to get it bolted back on because it will be under spring pressure. so you dont really need it on tdc .Unsure on the two gaskets, i only used one with a small amount of sealant.

2 gaskets is a long time “trick” used to reduce stroke of the plunger and possibly increase service life.
It doesn’t effect vacuum performance
As above just have at it and then wind the crank till the cam lobe is NOT pushing on the plunger
It’s not too hard to get too
Is yours leaking from the end plate ?

Hi Roverrescue
Yep leaking from the end plate or Welsh plugs.
Any tips are appreciated. Still working on my tray mounts based on your previous advice and help.

watching with interest.... Mines doing the same.
I've seen a few people drill out the end plate rivets and replace with a nut/bolt and the reseal the end plate with silicon - does this work?

I resealed one
It worked for a period before it stopped sucking.
The double gasket trick seems to prolong longevity
If you put a new one in?
