View Full Version : Stuck wading plug

The wading plug in my 200tdi D1 is stuck in pretty good.

So far tried (at different times) soaking in wd40, hitting the head of the plug, heating area around plug, heating plug and let cool, all to no avail.

Guess is down to drilling it out (anybody know what thread it is?), or welding a large nut to it and giving that a go, neither really excites me too much.....

Any other options to try 1st?

Long handle (cheater bar or pipe) on a 3/4" socket driver Rick? Then put your weight on the undo side of it ....

Did try, head of plug was already a bit worse for wear so couldn't really get much torque on it.

Ended up drilling it out. Its a 1/4" BSPP thread.

I like to replace the plug with an air fitting (seems to fit well -used this on my 300tdi and now 3.9), then you can just leave a long clear pipe attached clamped up high. If there are leaks you can always tell if its rear main or from elsewhere, and you don't have to be concerned with plugs etc. Photo attached of mine (with no hose yet).

I intend to just leave it open. But it's a good idea, my timing case has something similar.

Do you not run oil in your car? Looks very clean under there for a rover 🤣 [emoji106]
