Hi all,

On the td5 2003 alternator, can some one please point out the’W’ terminal used for tacho?

My understanding is it’s one of the three screws on the pic below on the back of the alternator.

Thanks

Those three "screws " you say are nothing more than mounting fasteners for the internal rectifier. Your "w" terminal will be for charge warning light in the instrument cluster. W terminal is in the 2 pin connector. I fairly certain .

copy of the wiring from RAVE attached

NY - to Inst Pack warning lamp and also goes via a header to the ECU
WG - from fuse 24

It's my understanding the tacho gets its signal from the ECU

W terminal won't be present on TD5..ecu signal from CAS more likely for tach.

However its easy to fit one if needed..just pull apart and solder a wire on one of the usual 3 field winding terminals before the diode bridge. Then need to use a decoder eg Dakota to run a tacho.

Recently fitted a tacho to my td5 with a repro of the factory on, single wire from pin 19 on the black plug to ecu. Early ecus this is blanked off, later one it also feed the ABS ecu. Then a positive feed from ignition and seperate one for the dash light.
