Anybody know a source of NDT / Bar treads other than Antique Tyres,

Just got a quote of $619 + $28 delivery EACH x 5 = $3235 , I'd buy XZL before paying that for bar treads.
Vintage Power Wagons have them for $US279 each = $AU402 Each plus delivery (I'll get a quote)

Any other ideas for 9.00 -16 welcomed. Don't strictly have to be NDT but nothing else looks correct on the Power Wagon

Good luck with that search - MRF used to make them but no longer available in Australia. Have a look in the 101 section as there is a lot of discussion on 9.00x16s and alternatives.

GB,
Try Geo Tyres (GEO Tyres: Australia’s Leading Online Tyre Specialists (http://www.geotyres.com.au)) in Derrimut, Melbourne. The do not have 9.00 x 16s on their website but do have 6.00 x 16s under the Boat Trailer tab. They recently had 7.5 x 16s up there also, so I'm thinking that they may be able to get 9.00s or be able to refer you on.

Milspares (milspares.net.au) in Brisbane have 9.00 x 16 for $263 ea but I can't tell if they are bar treads from the photo on the website. Good luck with the hunt and keep us informed of progress!
Regards,
Alan

Good spot - this is the link for the 9.00x16 - T-Tyre 9.00x16 (https://milspares.net.au/index.php?route=product/product&path=26&product_id=581)

$290 ea which is a good price - they also got tubes which are hard to get in the exact size.

Also have a look at westlaketyres.com.au In the truck section the CB981 comes in 8.25 R16 and might look the goods.

Milspares just got a container of Speedway Military tyres in from India, $280 each for 9.00-16 includes tube and rust band.
I jumped on it soon as I heard. Bit better than $620 each from Antique Tyres.

Don,
Does the PT in the background mean you have been to Dixon's Creek? Or that you now have two of them?

Alan

To my eye they look a bit skinny to be truly 900's. Have you fitted them up and compared/measured against an old Michelin 900X16 or 255/100R16 ?

Apart from an old military look why would any sane person want to run such terrible tyres ? Only someone who's actually driven on these tyres, especially on a side slope in Gippsland knows how 'scary' these tyres can be.

Not picking Don, just curious :)

When I bought my last lot of 9.00x16s I thought the same but when put on the rim and pumped up, they filled out OK.

Love Bar Treads , cut my teeth on them , The ONLY thing I don't like about them, is common to bias ply tyres (less than 10 ply anyway) is after sitting for a few days the tyres go square and take a few km to get round again and smooth out esp on a cold morning , maybe I run at too low a pressure.

I'm putting new Landcruiser split rim hoops on my Budd centres so wont be ready to mount the tyres for a little while, the 70 year old Dodge rims are too rusty / pitted and fatigued to be safe in my opinion. no other wheels fit so have to drill the rivets out and use these centers.

Yers, sorry it was a mad dash to get down there and recover it before the statewide lockdown.

......

Or maybe you live in a place that gets too cold! I never encountered this issue in the many years I ran bias tyres, except very rarely in very cold weather.

That may very well have been the problem, Its much warmer where I live now so hopefully don't experience the issue, in the Power Wagon.

Crikey Don, I still have nightmares from sliding sideways down a slope with absolutely no grip from the bar treads. It was probably a good thing really because if they had any sideways grip we may have dug in and rolled. Eventually we came to rest against a tree.

Terrible tyres on bitumen, suicidal in the wet and as you say square for the first couple of K's. Great traction going ahead but no sideways grip at all. Unsurprisingly the military gave them the flic and went to the old NATO pattern tread which were a much better, safer and more comfortable tyre but still with good 'agricultural' properties.
