Hi
I was wondering what people do to secure their series to leave it in public carpark.
Thanks

Replaced the rag top with a cab, fitted with door and window locks.
While not as secure as a more modern car, it keeps your shopping reasonably safe, and the vehicle is unlikely to be stolen except by a very determined thief. If concerned, you could consider locks such as a steering lock bar, and it is relatively easy to fabricate a clutch (U-shape steel that fits round the series 1 clutch pedal and is padlocked in place) or handbrake lock Similar, but prevents the handbrake from being released. Also seen a fitting welded to the gearstick (could be secured under the knob, but less secure) which meets a fitting wlded to the dash when in reverse, the two being linked by a large and obvious padlock.
Then there are simple procedures such as leaving the transfer case in neutral.
I have seen advertised, but not recently, keyed one way hydraulic valves which, inserted in the brake line, prevent brakes from being released once applied.
I will comment though that having driven Series Landrovers for over fifty years, I have never had an issue, although I have had more peace of mind since fitting the cab. I suppose it really depends on where and when you are parking it!
Hope this helps.

Most people wouldn't know how to start it . They need to find the starter button. I also have a hidden kill switch that cuts the power to the fuel pump so if they do get it started they don't get far before it runs out of fuel.

Most of these young 'car thieves' can't drive a vehicle with three pedals anyway. They wouldn't know how a choke worked either.
Some lowlife that knows Series vehicles well is probably the only person that would pinch one.
The Series in my sig was in the garage at my brothers place, when some low lifes trashed the place.
The LR and the hidden gun safe were the only things that appeared untouched.

Pop out rotor. Put in your pocket.
Will sound like its trying to start.

I've thought of doing that, never felt the necessity though. A hidden ignition kill switch is almost as good, and a lot more convenient - but again, I have never felt the need.

Hi John.
Just something the Old man used to do. UK.
I asked him once, what happens if you loose it ? 'Spare hidden in the car'
Love it also when passenger doesn't close Gilberts door properly.
'Lights on' They go back, re shut door and look to see if lights out. [bigwhistle]
Today 18yr old middle daughter, was locking Gilberts passenger window, as we pulled up for a beer, at a local pub.
'what are you laughing at, as turned to look at the fully rolled up soft top. Oh, not much use then, was the reply.[bigrolf]

Put locks on the doors and locks on the windows - some Series 1s did come with door locks - certainly if you also have a soft top that cannot do much about that but to lift the top and climb in makes it just a little harder.

I've done the secret ignition kill.switch on my petrol engine, it just cuts the line from ignition switch to the coil.
