Just installed the TransGo Pressure Regulator fix for my 05 L322 w/ the ZF5HP24 trans + fluid change and OE Filter.

Have to say she's smooth as butter now. Do recommend for around 100 AUD landed from the US.

Happy to answer any questions about the install if anyone is/has wondered about doing this.

Pressure spikes from a worn pressure regulator valve bore I have been told is the top cause for failure (A drum), that and heat.

My tranny is sort of OK it just has a little shudder on high load acceleration and it shifts into 3 not as smoothly as the other gears. It would be nice if it improved my box just a little.

Also, i found 20L of legit Mobil LT71141 in Sydney, they had a couple of drums left. I had to purchase through the Brisbane arm of the company as that was local to me and i paid $193 and picked up from the depot. Defs a steal!

Yes the sonnax fix does definitely look like the better option however requires significant disassembly and expense and Phil having the experience and technical ability to rip one of these out and rebuild it, i would imagine he would be a fan of the 'proper' way. :)

Im sure I'll be up for a rebuild at some stage, however I'm keen to delay that for as long as possible and at 55USD, it was an option i was willing to pursue. My thoughts on the matter were that TransGo are a company that specialises in these things, they would have done due diligence in selling this product (and advising people to self install) so relatively safe from that standpoint. There are also lots of great reviews about this product in other ZF transmissions (Mainly the BMW 5HP19). I was unable to find any negative reviews on the subject regarding a failure that was deemed caused by the updated PR valve.

PS, the o-rings were easy. A dab of vaseline and into the freezer so they stay put inside the grooves for insertion.

Yes, the simplicity of the install cf. the Sonnax is definitely something in its favour. At the price, if it can be done at home** then it's worth doing even if it extends the life of the trans when the Sonnax mod can be done.

**You did this at home? I can get access to a hoist which would make it easier.

Yep did it in my driveway.

The part comes with simple instructions regarding removing the front lower body only etc (attached). If you're okay with off road height and some jack stands, no problem.

Quickly it runs like this:

Drop the pan
Remove the filter
Remove the 20 or so bolts holding the front valve body on & give it a light tap/pry downwards to unseat
Zip off the relevant spring retainer
Grab the frozen PR valve, remove sizing o rings and slide in w/ new spring
Zip everything up again w/ OE filter and OE fluid
Clean up the absolute mess you made as you're a turkey and got fluid all over the driveway. :)

I have an E46, this guy does alot of videos about my series of vehicle and I've learnt boatloads from him over the years so I can vouch he's a great source of info. He did the 5HP19 version to his, this was basically the process aside from the guide pins, which are already integrated into the upper valve body. this video is what gave me the final confidence boost to give it a crack!

Thank you very much for the pics and the additional info. I feel confident that I could do it.

Mine isn't displaying any problems but why not be proactive.

I just need to find out if the rebuild place has already done it.

No probs at all.

Mine wasn't specifically showing signs, but it didn't feel quite 'right' (and deep seated paranoia about my trans).
