View Full Version : Passenger side air vents not blowing hot air

Hi, looking for tips / starting point for what I can check (‘13 D4);

For some reason the air conditioning vents on passenger side blow cold air when set to heating, drivers side works fine! (....Mrs not happy) ;)

Anyone had this issue?
Apologies if this has already been covered, I searched the forums but couldn’t find an answer..

Cheers

Hi

I'll be following this thread as I have just discovered this exact same problem with my D4 last week. Had not noticed it before as it wasn't winter :-)

x 3. Car going in to DazzaTD5 next week to see what magic he can do and hopefully get some brownie points back!

Is that why when my girlfriend gets into the passenger side of the car she always turns the vents downwards and says freezing?
Whoops lol!
Possibly x4!

How’d you go with those brownie points Gavin?? Please tell me you managed to get the whole jar filled mate and ya heater is working again (getting bloody cold down here)? ;)

Nope. Car is back from service unfixed pending Dazza's preferred a/c auto elec getting an update from Rover after sparky doing initial diagnostics.

Apparently RAVE etc still show the D3 simpler semi manual system for blending etc, but there is an update for the D4 automated/computer controlled system which they didn't know about. I needed the car last weekend, so it will have to go back when I'm told the info required is to hand.

In the meantime a cold bride:soapbox: - but she rarely hops in apart from trips away as she has her own 10 year old C70 Volvo (retirement present to herself and which she loves).

I'll update as/when I get more info.

Had this issue, reverse flush of heater matrix fixed the issue.

Hi all

I had my Indy look at this problem with my D4 at my last service last week. They thought the small electric motor on the left side was not opening/closing the plenum flap thing that diverts air from the air conditioner to the heater radiator. That's the most common problem. Turns out that flap is apparently working fine. Computer says it opens and closes the flap and with a small camera poked down they can see it moving so it looks OK. They also twice flushed the radiator that does the heating, its behind the dash, and that was OK. They are stumped. It would now be a complete dash off with a full day just for getting it off and on again to find the problem.

So I have had no luck with mine either. My wife's Series IIa has a simpler air conditioning system that I can understand and diagnose if it breaks down :-)

Hi Guys,

follow the below link to the DISCO3UK forum and you will find that this issue is with the Heating Matrix. I was having the same issue and this was found to be the problem. Be aware, it is a big job, labour wise.

DISCO3.CO.UK - View topic - Heating problem in my MY10 Disco 4 HSE. (https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/heating-problem-my10-disco-4-hse-179814.html?highlight=passenger+air+vents+heating+ up&start=15)

Will depend on how blocked the heater core is , I've had success with one (D3) but not another (RRS)

Mine is still a work in progress - car going back to Dazza in 10 days, but no guarantee of a resolution yet.

and I prob won't get mine fixed as its a dash off job which would be a fair bit of $.
Leaving it as-is will keep the passenger cool :-)

G'day Gavin, you end up having any luck getting yours sorted mate? (never got round to sorting mine and now it's getting cold out there again! [bigwhistle])

So still no luck getting this sorted - I tried reverse flushing heater core the other week, unfortunately made no difference though...

I know that this problem 9/10 times is due to blocked heater core (which I think my problem is also) but, I did plug my IID tool in and checked live values to see what both left and right blend motors were doing and I did get back a strange result (see pics below - 1st pic is with both temps set to max cold, 2nd is with bot temps set to HI [max hot]) - left (passenger side) doesn't appear to be behaving as expected? I managed to remove the left blend motor (which was a painful exercise in its self!) and was able to manually open and close blend flap, still had the same issue with no hot getting through on left so am guessing that it's still a heater core issue and the IID tool reading is just an anomaly?? ...or there could be an issue with blend door flap (probably will need to get hold of inspection / bore camera to check this)??

Wondering, does anyone else have a GAP IID tool handy that could check what yours is showing for left and right temperature blend motors?

Typically, I've left it till the last minute and now it's still not fixed and the cold is rolling in!! [bigrolf][bighmmm][bigsad]
