1948 Series 1 - passed to next generation

Last night I got a very pleasant surprise when my father in law called - and said he was going to give me his 1948 Series 1 (and a heap of spare parts).

It is down at their place past Albany but hopefully I will be able to go and pick it up soon.

Will need a bit of work to get it re-licensed but it’s in pretty good running order.

Feeling very chuffed. Scored as he wanted it to go to us as he knows we are all Land Rover nuts!

Will keep you all posted.

Thats absolutely fantastic, Im envious of your father in law, I don't have anyone to pass my vintage cars onto , kids / grandkids have no interest whatsoever , first thing they'll do when I keel over is sell or scrap them .

My Dad definitely passed on the bug to me. My first car was his MkIII Austin Healy Sprite that he bought in 1964 (which I still have), he still has an MGB GT (which I basically pay for to keep my Mum off his case - after 50 years of marriage she still hasn’t given up on trying to get him to reduce his cars) and there is also a 1951 Bentley.

Fortunately for me my wife is used to it from her side and both my 12 year old son and 10 year old daughter both want Defenders for their first cars (I have a 2014 110 and a 1993 110 that used to be my dads as well).

Only problem is all the regos and insurance!

As to all the rego's.....I understand your problem. I have those in my signature plus a daily driver plus the wife's car. The Club Permit system at least reduces the costs for the older Land Rovers. When I first had the Series I I was getting grief because of $700 rego for a vehicle only used a handful of times per year !

When my time comes I have a couple of boys who are interested, plus at least they have an idea of values so hopefully SWMBO won't scrap them although she regularly threatens to !

Was he the original owner?
Just thinking original paperwork would be good to have.

The one in my sig was passed on as well,luckily it was still registered and roadworthy,original and in pretty good condition.
Also has original invoices,receipts,log books,etc.

Oh,there was a Bentley as well,but unfortunately it was sold a few years earlier.

Time to join a car club and get some of them on Historic Rego. That would save a bundle of cash.
