Almost spotted.... had my car in for service today at NSW Central coast Landrover. They received their 1st Defender today, but I didn't get to see it... it went straight into their workshop, not available for public viewing for a few days.

I was at my dealer today to pick up a lost lock nut key and got talking to the service manager about the new defer. He mentioned that they got two delivered yesterday that were going through pre-delivery. He took me around to the workshop so I could have a good look. They had a P400e SE and a D240 First Edition.
A very nice vehicle and weird to see it in the flesh after all this time. It's almost like it's not a brand new model because I have seen sooo much of it over the last few years. I am sure it would be very different if it was moving with me in the driver's seat!

I received a reply saying that vehicle purchases are permitted under current restrictions. On the radio this morning (3AW) Lexus of Blackburn advertised test drives. Seems strange too me...

I got the chance to look over a couple yesterday too and I must admit to being pleasantly surprised.
Initial impressions:
• It looks better in the flesh than in the photos.
• The P400 has no room under the bonnet. The diesel is a little better but not by much. Would be more than my Puma though.
• The interior is very good. Very comfortable but looks quite practical and hard wearing.
• It is huge inside - at least in the passenger compartment.
• Space in the back doesn't look as bad as the numbers suggest. Certainly a lot better than a Disco 1 and probably not too far off a D3/4. If you put the back seat down its cavernous and probably similar to the old 110.
• The rear seat can be slid forward, giving you another 100mm or so of space in the back.
• The wheel and tyre package is a big improvement from the D4 and they were all shod in A/T tyres.
• The roof line is quite low, at least compared to the old one.
Overall I think it looked like a good package and would make a good replacement for a D4. I can't see it replacing my old Defender but one would look good sitting next to it. I'd certainly look at it if I were in the market for something new.
Cheers,
Jon

This is the one at Gosford, a D240 , it is available for test drive, I overheard the sales person asking another couple if they wanted to take it for a drive. I only had time to take a couple of pics, and sit in the passenger seat. Seat is very comfy, being a lot flatter in the base than some previous efforts from LR. Load space is wider inside than the door size which is good, i.e. they didn't shrink the cargo space to match the door width. Does not look like it will be long enough to sleep in the back.... might have to wait for the 130, preferably with the D350 donk.

Stopped into Landrover Artarmon, they have had 3 new Defenders in since Thursday, I test drove a Black 3.0L petrol (P300 I think) and a silver D240. If you are feeling flush they also have a 'Godwana Stone' D240 SE with Explorer pack for sale for $120K which looked great. I was comparing to my Disco which has an SDV6 and the D240 felt a little underpowered, but not significantly however the petrol was was good. The salesguy told me all the engines were changing on future orders and the new Ingenium 3 litre 6 cylinder diesel would be available which I think I would wait for. Its definitely the Discovery 4 replacement, the driving height felt a little higher than the discovery and very comfortable....

Did they say how much more for the bigger diesel?
Going on D5 prices it will at a guess be around $10 to $12K more.
So it becomes quite a bit more expensive.
Pushes the SE with explorer pack up over $130K

No, he had no idea how much or even how to order one....
I think in the scheme of things 10k for the better engine isn’t that bad considering the cost of all the other add on’s.... and the happiness the bigger engine would give every time you put your foot down [emoji3]

Going down hill so will be fine.[bighmmm]
Even uphill, with TC,it will scramble through with a wheel up,that is what the latest electronics do.An E diff will help as well,if fitted.
Wheel travel is not as critical as it was in older models with open diffs and no TC.
It was all about driver ability and experience in those days.

Auto tow hitch I’m pretty sure not for Australia
Someone else may confirm but I think we get the Reece hitch design

Looks like Middle East somewhere,by the rego plate.
I was thinking,if they were, say, $85 to $95K,110,even for base model, which is definitely no poverty pack, with a diesel, they would fly out the door so quickly,LRA wouldn't be able to keep up with the demand.
The 4cyl diesel was always about $10K less than the P400,anyway.

I believe it's the same in the US - 3720 Kgs
Whatever you take. Wherever it is you decide to go.The Defender 8201 lbs towing capability means it can readilyrespond to the most challenging demands. Combined withthis is the optional Advanced Tow Assist*, which allows youto reverse a trailer while Defender takes care of the countersteering. The Touchscreen** will also display both thecurrent and desired trailer trajectory1.
Towing Receiver Kit – Detachable square receiver for cleanfinish. Trailer hitch kit to be sourced locally. Approved for upto 8,201 lbs maximum towing capacity and 771.6 lbs nose load.Towing electrics are included. Kit includes: towing receiver, module, module bracket, harness and tow eye cover.
Same nose weight as AUS.

You know that's exactly what I was thinking whilst standing looking at it in the yard.. and I'd have bought one then and there...but 115k plus is a bridge too far esp given the state of the econony atm.

In all seriousness, rather than getting the LR factory protective wrap which is rather dull looking, I would consider a full after market body wrap. It is amazing what they can do with Vinyl wraps and when it comes time to sell you can always remove and restore the car to its original finish.
Plus orange and black makes any car look amazing.

i think i will wait to see what ARB or OL bring to market. I have a Bar and Warn winch fitted to my RRS and that cost
about $5K all up from OL, i was verbally quoted nearly 3 times that amount to fit the winch mounts, winch and cuddly toy

I saw my first one in Orange this afternoon. Silver with black and it looks a million times better in the flesh. I was so impressed with it, it looks super comfy, it looks massive and it looks super strong. I'm a fan.
One dislike is the rear lights arrangement, but they also look better in the flesh. I notice the rear corners look like corner panels that could one day be developed in to really nice corner light clusters. Perhaps the same company that centralised the Discovery Sport number plate may do the same.
I noticed a radiator behind the DS brake duct for something. The body already looks tricky to fit a bullbar, this may make it a bit more tricky. Quite a vulnerable spot for a radiator.
I'm really impressed by the one I saw.

I sit here wondering about the new 'Defender'. It's a funny thing. Traditional Defender drivers are (largely)apoplexed that it's been given that moniker, as it seems once removed from what it was. Namely an expeditionary vehicle capable of being modified to suit the needs of the owner. However go out west and most Cockies driving a Defender never return the 'wave' as they don't see it as particularly special,...just another vehicle to get the job done. Which brings me to my next pint/point,..... I really can't see the new Defender being driven by those not so well heeled. As my eldest son said upon seeing in a carpark,..."It's a soccer Mum's car", and I have to agree. I've just received a new hub replacement kit and will fit next week, I see others are fitting auto boxes and even new/different engines(Puma 2.2), I can't even imagine doing that to the new Defender, and that makes all the difference!

Well I saw my first 90's today in our yard...I actually don't mind their stance. They seem much better proportioned than the 110's. Are there any 90's on the road at the moment? as all I've seen are the 110's driving around....not one wave though, and I've so far spotted 4. The last one we were right next to at a set of lights. I had the window down arm out, typical old defender pose , waved ....nothing just a puzzled look. My son then leaned across and we both waved. Husband and wife in new 110 just stared straight ahead, maybe they thought if they ignored us we'd go away..[biggrin]. I've decided I'm not going to waste a wave on the new defender.

Going down the M1 towards the Gold Coast this morning I spotted a new Defender with some options fitted including the black hi lite option , whatever it's called....the car was grey/silver , I'm not familiar with names of colours.
Anyway I saw it from behind and could not identify what the vehicle was so I caught up to it , surprised to see it was a defender.
it was fitted with a ladder on the LHS , fitted with one of those white saddlebags on the RHS, topped off with full length roof rack with a what I guess to be a rollout shade hanging well outside the left of the roof rack and there were large gaps between each of these items and the bodywork. Everything was asymmetric.
From either side and the rear I thought it looked positively stupid and totally detracted from the basic look of the vehicle.
I guess the guy driving it thought I was admiring it when saw me smile , in fact I was smirking.
I know some here won't like what I've just written about the beloved defender , but it's what I saw and perceived.

Gotta say, having seen the 90 recently at the dealer, it looks stubby to me. I think the 110 is better proportioned by far.
As for the wave, some people like that sort of thing, some people think perfect strangers waving at you is weird. Personally, I own a really nice merino jumper and whenever I see someone else in a similar one, I wave. Usually they cross the street…[smilebigeye]

I’m not a big fan of the pannier. It looks a bit odd to my eyes. But I don’t mind the asymmetry of the ladder. I do think the 110 /90 looks great from the back. But you know what, looks are completely subjective. Just because I don’t like it doesn’t mean my taste is better…

I recon the 110 looks great, some of the colours are fantastic as are the matching black wheels.
The 90 doesn’t look as good, nor do the vehicles with the white steel wheels.
The lunch box hanging off the side looks horrid, only in my opinion.
Anyway, everyone is different, each to their own.
Just my 2 cents worth.
I wish they would get the quality control sorted, just read another review from some mob in Canada.
They had a new 90,the audio system didn’t work properly, nor did the sunroof.
FFS surely if a company was going to give a vehicle out for a test review, wouldn’t it be tripple checked beforehand to make sure it was perfect, that is everything worked properly?
Maybe not [bigsad]

No, he bought something while I was waiting for the new one to arrive.

Seen in Cairns, old and new. Unfortunately wasn’t fast enough to get them when they were parked together.
It looks like you can utilise those factory attachments on the rear quarter windows for other things.
cheers

That is the most modded one i have seen a pic of in Aus.
The roof is well and truely loaded,as often seen in other pics,as the rear load area is pretty small.
It will certainly be having a drink at 110km/hr.[bigsad][biggrin]
No news of the 130 lately either.

I meant to post this earlier. I was in NZ in early June and worked out why we don't see too many over here... I spotted 5 in one day in Auckland alone. Sorry, no pics.

As a closet follower of Supercars, I was pleased to see this in the background of an interesting youtube from the Enforcer and the Dude:

But you haven't seen the contents of the rear load area. I hope he doesn't tow as well...the GVM limits are being tested here.

Having another look, seems the owner has the wrong vehicle for the job,or needs some kind of trailer.
Those jerry's on the side look close to being illegal as well
