If anyone lives in the Penrith (Sydney) area and is looking for a JP, I am one.

Are there any others on the forum?

Any BBQ planned in the near future? :D

For NSW JPs registered after 2003, you can search the JP Register on the 'Net http://jp.lawlink.nsw.gov.au/public/welcomePublic.do

Enter postcode 2790 and a page full of them will appear.

'Justice of the Peace' is a bit of a misnomer I think.

My next door neighbour is one, & so far he has assaulted Mrs 4 Bee for something totally unprovoked & the coppers had to be called & bruising photographed, but he squirmed his way out of that one. They made the comment to us "he is a strange unit".

Some years ago, when I innocently requested he note the corner Survey Peg when he was laying a new bitumised driveway, he immeditely wanted to have a poke at me & started dancing around like a bloody goose waving his fists under my nose, wanting to know if I wanted to "have a go".

Of course, I just laughed at him & walked away. Since the assault on Mrs Bee, we believe he is responsible for ripping out 50' of new S & L front fencing.

Is Anger Management included as part of the JP course P38A? If so, I think he needs retraining.:D:D

I wonder if he could be stripped of the JP as not being a fit and proper person? He doesn't sound like he is one.

In NSW, it used to be that a JP appointment was for life. That is being changed so that it is for a set term.

If he is charged & found guilty of an offence, then yes he can be stripped of the position. I believe that moves are afoot here to make them short term appointments, but whether that will be for new appoinments only, I don't know.

Have spoken to the Department of Justice when the assault happened, but not given names. Yet.

What goes around comes around.

Yes Ron I am one - however its a "silent" listing in on the lawlink web page - however if anyone needs a JP in the South West or Parramatta I can help.

The reason I have no number etc listed as my appintmnet is mainly for work, due to the nature of my duties it is essential i am not contactable by any joe bloggs at any time.

Also ill be passing through Lithgow on Sunday 25th if that helps Ace ?

My appointment was originally for work (Telstra) - I've only witnessed one item since and that was last week, here at work.

Mine was for work as well.
I was the only guy at work without post nominals:(
Easiest way to get them even if they are honorary:cool:
(and I have helped some folk out along the way:rolleyes: )

:D :D

It reminds me of a situation I had in Saudi Arabia - I wasn't acceptable to the Saudis for a telecoms job I was doing as I didn't have a degree. I was replaced by an Egyptian architect - he had a degree.

After I was replaced, the Saudis then offered me a job working directly for them rather than through Telecom Australia International.

In QLD to get the (Qual) its just a matter of sitting extra questions during the written exam. We don't have to undergo a course that I know of... well I never had to back in 2001.

I'm a JP (Qual) in Qld.

From memory every JP that sat the new exam is Qualified and this separates you from the previous JPs.

If you just want to be able to sign stuff then you can be a Commisioner for Declarations. This does not require an exam. There is also a JP (Magistrate's Court). Not sure what they can do over and above a normal JP (Qual).

I did the course before the exam but it was not manditory. Just helped you pass I suppose.

This is how it was when I sat my exam in about 2001 or 2002.

Ralph1Malph

Yes,
I did the course in about 97 or 98, not compulsory but helped with the exam. Back then, if you passed the course you could be appointed a (qual) JP. If you did not but still wanted to be of use in the community, then they made you a CDec.
JP (Mag) is an extra course, by invite, after expressing interest, that allows you and one other JP (Mag) to sit 'on the bench' for petty sessions courts in remote areas or when a wig is sick etc. Has to be two and each decision unanimous.
I expressed interest but was told no need for the extra qual as I lived in an area with plenty wigs. That and I kept saying 'hang the guilty b*astard' during the interview:p

Back in the mid 1980's I was authorised as a JP for Life, then as things go. they decided that authorisation was for 5 years at a time and you had to go through the process again each time and pay fees for the registration and jump through more red tape. All for something that was often an inconvenience waiting for someone who never turned up and you couldn't charge for it in any case.

So I didn't bother renewing when the sunset clause was up.

I'm a C.Dec but nowhere near Runcorn. I would suggest you just go into any bank. They usually have at least one on staff or can point you to another nearby.

Was just trying to get it done tonight.

I've actually tried banks etc before and the last few times they say they don't have anyone and to go to the JP stands in the shopping centres. Which are open for a couple of hours twice a week or so.
Which is surprising as they are either lying or have sacked their staff that were JPs as I've used them before.

It gets a bit annoying when you are the only JP in your family. Great for everyone else but not so much for me.

I didn't renew either, Diana. I've had more call for it since than I had before.
