As a follow up from previous discussions in Aerpro FP8409K Install kit to suit Landrover discovery 4 - allows aftermarket double (https://www.aulro.com/afvb/l319-discovery-3-and-4-a/270930-aerpro-fp8409k-install-kit-suit-landrover-discovery-4-allows-aftermarket-double.html) , Android auto/Apple car play in D4? (https://www.aulro.com/afvb/l319-discovery-3-and-4-a/273361-android-auto-apple-car-play-d4.html) and Aerpro CALR05 for fitting double DIN aftermarket headunits into low spec D4 vehicles (https://www.aulro.com/afvb/l319-discovery-3-and-4-a/276270-aerpro-calr05-fitting-double-din-aftermarket-headunits-into-low-spec-d4-vehicles.html)
Our base space MY12 D4 is heading off for an aftermarket headunit upgrade by Driven Sound Vision Technology. They've previously done this to another customers Discovery 4's, check out CarPlay Retrofit Solutions & Custom Audio Fabrication (https://www.drivensoundvision.com.au/landrover-discovery-carplay-retrofit/) using the Connects2 wiring adapters to retain the factory steering wheel controls and reverse parking sensors while making a customer surround for the new headunit to replace the factory screen in that location.
It does mean the old stereo control buttons are redundant non-functional and still sitting on the centre of the dash but probably a better look than the Aepro dash plastic kits - in my opinion.
They mentioned during conversations that they intend to manufacture these custom surrounds when time allows - so may become a future option for others not near them.
Ours will be similar to the link, but instead of the Alpine headunit, we are going with the Pioneer DMH-Z635BT as it adds wireless Apple CarPlay feature. It's also a shallow mount so will fit in place (at present it seems that only this Pioneer and the Alpine they previously used can work in this position). We are also adding in a reverse camera.
Will report with pictures and details on completion.

Thanks for this.
Note my location is a bit away, and I'm one of those waiting with bated breath to fit one when they get a kit (or can supply the bits for my local car audio man to do the job). HINT HINT.
Perhaps you can give them a gentle reminder that we common folk are waiting on their expertise. They did tell me the kit was on the back burner due to expanding local work.
The only good thing about the delay is that they are obviously so very busy locally and good to see someone getting a peripheral benefit from COVID.
PS in my case I don't even have an OEM reversing camera, but would love to add that functionality if easily added. Otherwise I could live without it if I could just get all the other functionality, plus if not built in, a USB port to listen to my music on long trips.
EDIT just read specs and USB is included - I want one too.

2.7's were the base spec engine until MY13 when it changed to a single turbo version of the 3.0L. Personally, we've intentionally gone for MY12 2.7 vehicles for our two D4's under the hope that they're hopefully the most refined and sorted out after being used from 2004 onwards in D3 prior and they offer the backup of later model Ford Territory engines as replacements.
I believe that the first two years of D4 production - 2010 and 2011 perhaps? used a Ford entertainment system. These are identifiable by the small screen and two buttons on the right hand side. I think MY12 changed over to a LR system which used a different small screen without the two buttons on the side. Then later in the D4 production there was another change/update.
The previous vehicle that they did detailed in the weblink above and on Facebook at Page not found | Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/driven.soxund.vision/posts/620866835343673) was to a 09/2014 built vehicle. I'm still hoping that there is no differences or issues with my MY12 getting done...

The MY13 in 3.0 TDV6 is still the same twin turbo 3.0L as the SDV6 just "detuned" in the ECU.

We ended up optioning for the Pioneer DMH-Z6350BT headunit (which has wireless Apple CarPlay and is a shallow design to fit in this location) and the camera is an EcoMaster unit (which apparently is basically ford OEM quality for the aftermarket). I'm not sure I'm totally happy with the reverse camera though as none of the back of the vehicle can be seen in the footage which doesn't help with reversing to line up a trailer hitch to the tow ball and lacks a reference point of the vehicle.
They've had another Disco 4 turn up for the job, pictures on their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/driven.sound.vision/posts/762513641178991

Good question. Not that I'm aware of. So far the clock is the only setting that I think is effected by this as it seems to be the only one set on the audio/entertainment system but viewable on the instrument cluster. I have wondered if there may be a method using the GAP Diagnostic IID Tool to set the clock?

So Mike, what is the difference between a 09-10 and 10-11 model (possibly apart from the radio?)
And as an aside, DazzaTD5 fitted my i-Drive a couple of days ago. He left it on performance 9 for my bride to drive home - wow!
I then had one drive around the burbs and very quickly reset it to auto. Just back from a round trip to Geraldton, and still much more sensitive and can go like a scalded cat, so I'm now having to relearn the gentle application process.

Bugger. That pops that one. I guess twice a year I'll just had to disconnect and then reconnect the battery at the right time (whatever the clock defaults to) to reset it - a pain but doable.
The new headunit does have its own clock time display.
So Mike, what is the difference between a 09-10 and 10-11 model (possibly apart from the radio?)
Recall what I've read/been told, the MY09 - MY10 models used a bastardised Ford entertainment system. Identifiable by the two small buttons on the side of the display screen. It seems to be wired/connected on very different setup to the later years and given it's small time period etc. not really developed and supported in the aftermarket industry.
If you want more details I suggest having a read of some of the threads linked in my first post in this thread.

So that's why Rye in Launceston can't finish my kit yet for installation - he's still waiting for a bastardised Ford set-up to play with - as he told me, but it didn't click.
I originally thought all 09-11 had the same 2 button radio version.

Problem I can’t accept - can reset the clock twice a year, but the dash will show the wrong date in the info section too....
And I don’t like that idea!
I’ve asked GAP and got a no.
I’ve also contacted BBS to see if they can make it happen.

I’ve been talking with Connects2 and Aerpro about a solution too, really shouldn’t be too hard to make a small keypad and relay the screen into the Aux Vid line.

I am surprised there hasn’t been a solution found yet for either the D3 or early D4 given the popularity of fitting after market head units.
Seems the clock is more encrypted than the engine map.

2009MY is a Discovery 3
2010-2011MY is the Ford system with two buttons on the screen.
2012MY-onward is the system that the CALR05 work with.
Model year & build year are not always the same.

Turns out that this problem has been solved all a long but we didn't really know - Rye from Driven Sound Vision Technology just advised me of. Check out page 3 of the Connects2 CTULR05
INFODAPTER INTERFACE FOR LAND ROVER VEHICLES http://www.connects2downloads.co.uk/C2/files/InstallationGuides/CTULR05_IG_v1.pdf - basically, to access the settings menu, push and hold the 'mode' button on the steering wheel for two seconds. A Connects2 settings menu now displays on the new aftermarket headunit. One of the options to set in there is the date and time which corrects the instrument cluster date and time.

It, and the keypad below, control the vehicle time and date settings.
Without an interface you cannot reset the time/date stamps on the vehicle itself, therefore diagnostics cannot pinpoint the real time an event occurred - only indicate in relation to whatever date/time is in the system when interrogated.
Also as the dash displays date and time - for me - this would annoy the hell out of me [emoji41]
The Connects2 interfaces retain this - but not for 2010/11 models at this stage.

Good News ! I just worked how to easily connect a 2010 low/mid line D4 with the High Line wiring looms that come with most android head units. They include a can bus decoder that works both ways, and it works so well, parking sensors, steering wheel controls, set car date/time, gps, 4g, car play android, reversing camera, install any app from play store (eg topo maps) auto even the LR 4x4 screen, im very impressed !
I used the one sourced domestically from incartech so i even went to his shop and spoke to him, and have contacted him for phone support, had to bend his arm to sell it to me as not plug and play, but ive worked it all out by referencing the factory wiring diagrams.
Install guide & video coming soon.

So as it always happens, you dont know what you dont know, and sometimes you just need the right keyword.
After doing the deep dive into low/mid/high line stereo options and learning what i had , i was actually able to find a aliexpress seller who is claiming to sell low/mid line looms, and from the photos, the plugs do look better, though hard to tell if it would work. The incartech guy here said he didnt think it would work when i showed it to him, indicating hed looked into it, but id be still inclined to try one being under $100, and even if its wired up wrong, it could likely be easily corrected like i did, or the pre wired plugs would be useful to adapt a high line loom to be plug and play. The decoder is same.
https://www.aliexpress.com/i/1005004803361711.html look for Color Name: Low-End AB
Anyway, here are some more photos from this morning, when I installed Austraian Topo Maps and GAP IID Tool , the later id never used on a tablet sized screen, so found out it adapts quite well
Im not sure I want to actually log my personal google account into this device for various reasons, so you could create a separate account, or what i did here for now, is just install the apkpure app (from apkpure) that is then installed in android without play store, and then it can install any free playstore app without play logged in.
