Does the Australian diesel have the adblue requirement ?? One of the defender2 forum members in
South Africa just put up a video of one of their Land Rover club members in his new Defender, and
stated in SA they are not spec'd with Adblue.. which would make it far easier for touring in Africa
of course

Yes it has the adblue.

When’s your P400 arriving?

It is on the Tonsberg which should be halfway across the Pacific, docks Auckland 9th Sept, Port Kembla is about the 17th Sept.
Based on the VISTA order it should have been at the dealers on the 18th Sept if docking was on the 12th. So assume it is a week delayed to get to the dealers, now the 24th. The dealer has to fit the wheel arch protection, side steps, RAI, ladder,
roof rack, classic mud flaps.. and the rear tow eyes i purchased from the UK.. another week maybe, i reckon i will get my hands on it on or around 1st October ish.. 12 months approx from when it was ordered [bigwhistle]

Still trying to get the dealers to procure Duratracs for me.. they may get a better rate than i was quoted by local tyre
centre $495 a corner

Sounds like a petrol first edition. What made you go the P400SE over the D240FE?

I imagine it would have been similar in cost but maybe a little bit more with a bigger engine and a little less kit.

I put 7 seats pack, hitch & servicing pack on mine and that’s it. Planning to add front runner roof rack and a RTT.

I decided I did not need the pano roof, for 12-18 months It will be doing a lap of 🇦🇺 with a fully laden roof rack,
I very rarely use the sunroof on my RRS, so that pushed me to the SE rather than HSE/FE and the Aussie spec
on the SE is quite generous. I gave up on waiting on release details from FR on their rack and went the
expensive LR route.. against my better judgement no doubt, but after 6 months and no info I got impatient.

My last two vehicles have been TDv6 RRS’s, time to change to Petrol, it’s my last major vehicle
purchase and thought 400 🐎 would be a great way to release the stress 😉

I will pm you my spec tomorrow ..

Fair call. I have to say I love the pano roof, but it is expensive. It is easy to forget to open the sunroof, so I love that the blind auto opens when you start the car reminding you to use the thing. It’s nice the extra light it lets in. But I can certainly appreciate the bigger engines lure. The power for me was a step up so I’m thoroughly enjoying it. I can only imagine the joy of driving the 400.

Does the tow pack include an electric brake controller? Do you know if there are provisions for where it may (neatly) be installed?

from the Facebook group "all new defender owners group" apparently the vehicle is prewired for a brake controller
to be added by the owner i have been informed and it is a relatively simple job. Some people seem to mount the

This first photo taken in northern Tasmania (Narawntapu Nationa Park). Its a D240S. We routinely get over a thousand Ks per tank if driven 'nicely'! Second photo on top of Mt Wellington in the fog. Bike rack worked well over the holiday too btw.

Nice colour!
If you go down to Port Arthur on the Tasman Peninsula look out for a white one.

Excellent! We are planning to get down there again in March/April, as long as the borders allow - we have to travel thru Victoria [bigsad]. Love Tassie in the autumn, actually love it all the time. We're hoping to do a few walks like Walls of Jerusalem, maybe the three capes, depends how young we feel! We love our new defender, soooo nice to drive.

Hi Zilch,

I'm still a few months away from taking delivery of my Defender SE D300. I was walking around the local stealers yard and noticed that one of the new Defenders they had in stock had an access hole in the front sump guard to access the front recovery hook and all the rest had just a flimsy plastic panel which you need to remove every time you need to use the front recovery hook. After investigation it appears this plastic access panel actually requires the option of the front sump guard for access to the hook.

Can I ask did your Defender come with the front sump guard with access hole ? I tried to see what option or package it comes in on the online Land Rover build your Defender but it didnt show any thing. I asked the salesman I bought my Defender from, and not only did he think the front recovery hook was an option ( which it isn't - its there on every new Defender ) but he had no idea the front sump guard was an option.

Anyway I will keep pushing the selling dealer re the front sump guard and whether its a factory option or a dealer option.

Hi Zilch,

Can I ask did your Defender come with the front sump guard with access hole ?

afraid not, i have the horrible black plastic cover, which is easily remove by the way if you go off road. The options are to buy the expensive LR one, or possibly
look at fleabay / aliexpress.. not sure if the aliexpress one is a direct swap for the plastic or a full strip down and fit as per the LR one

I just find it hard to believe that Land Rover have claimed to produce one of their most capable 4WD, and you have to get on your knees and use a screw driver and remove a flimsy black plastic panel before you get bogged/stuck to use the front recovery hook [bighmmm] .

I asked the LR salesman again today and he just scratched his head and didn't even know there was a recovery hook behind the black plastic cover.

Also found this aluminum cover on Amazon which I may try for $400 bucks.

Yes removing the recovery hook cover on the L322 is pretty easy and doesn’t require a tool to remove.

I’ve never felt the need to buy a metal hook cover as my plastic one is still ok after 13 years despite being removed a few times. Also the current plastic cover matches the bumper skirt colour (black).

Apart from access to the front recovery hook, also just wondering how strong the plastic undershield would be - deflecting stones and thrown up branches.

The Amazon undershield I mentioned in the previous post, you can get that in either aluminum or black. Not sure how well the black shield colour would match the rest of the underskirt.

Attached a couple of pictures of the front of the Defender D240 S in the local LR yard - with the factory undershield. The dealer still cant find the option and told me the D240 in the pic was a LR Australia test vehicle.169031169032

Sounds like a bunch of BS. I have the undershield and also the winch/bullbar setup in the game room at the moment awaiting the actual vehicle. I've ordered all the accessories at cost and will fit them myself as it's pretty straightforward for most things. The Bullbar and Winch require a bit more work but I'll be saving around 10k total in labor charges for everything.

The undershield part number is VPLEP0436. It's very nice quality and made of aluminium and a steel bracket. Retails appx 950.

There is a good fitting video by powerful UK that shows how to put the undershield on. It's easy. Land Rover Defender Front Undershield Fitting Instructions / review VPLEP0436 - YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQsFNiJ6Qks&ab_channel=powerfulukltd)
JLR also helpfully have a site with instructions for all accessories. LAND ROVER ACCESSORY FITTING INSTRUCTIONS (http://accessories-instructions.landrover.com/enUSA/new-defender)

I'll upload a photo of the undershield soon. In the meantime here is the bullbar. 60mm tube construction. A bargain for 1242 retail.

I haven't put mine on yet as I haven't got the car. You've got a few options when it comes to the winch . The basics are all similar. You can either do a bullbar setup, or an A-frame setup. I'll attach a few pics from the parts system to show you the difference.

Ignore the coil springs in the parts diagram as it's not applicable if you have air suspension.

The only mods anyone has ever done with regards to the winch is using the landrover winch cradle. Some of those posts have imported the bullbar but used another brand or different winch setup.

The majority of those mods are all oem parts and products.

Lucky 8 LLC make some good rock sliders and a rear ladder. The oem ladder isn't compatible with the front runner full sized rack.

I wouldn't get side steps as they decrease your clearance.

Some very important things to remember:
1) the 12v bus bar under the bonnet runs to the battery and needs an appropriate current regulation.
2) the oem winch pack from JLR includes and over current protection CT which is not included in the retail winch setup. If you aren't careful you can blow out your wiring system.

If you have any questions please ask, as I have researched this to the ends of the earth.

All doors locked which was a shame so unable to look inside properly or have a seat. But captured this nice looking 110 which was wrapped in graphics. Wish they would do something with the D90, looked a bit boring next to the wrapped 110. enjoy.

We did something similar a few weeks back and my brother didn't like the signature panel, and suggested getting it painted or wrapped in black, so that way it'd blend in with the windows, which I thought was a good idea for anyone else that feels the same.

And with the $1,000 off accessories offer at the moment I also got a boot-load of goodies to bolt on over the next few weekends. Rear towing eyes, front undershield and compressor. I also have a windscreen mount antenna on order which will combine with a GME UHF CB. A trailer brake controller will finish things off for now.

I will hold off getting a roof rack or winch/bar in case there are some better aftermarket options out soon.

Well I have driven it home, and to the tyre place. Both times the ride was comfortable and the radio and Apple airplay worked well. [wink11]

As soon as the 5km limit is relaxed I will give a more detailed report. [biggrin]

My D250 S Defender 90... Pictured during a recce for our RTV style Challenge.

The car is in Off-road Height 1 (33" Falken Wildpeaks) in the photo and has the Off-Road Pack and Tow Pack, so TR2 and all the associated systems included.

Hi All,

After a 6 month wait - I couldn't be happier. What a brilliant car.

Congratulations. Looks so much better without the white square on the side. I think that’s the first time I’ve seen the white dashboard - Looks good with the white exterior.

Is it air or coils?

Cheers,
Jon

I was worried about the white dash being too much, but it’s great. With the while accents on the door - it just flows. The salesman said “you nailed it with the white dash - the grey dash looks **** because of the white accents on the door”. (Naturally he would say that - but I agree).

I went coil’s - and couldn’t be happier. I am very happy with the ride. [emoji1303][emoji3]

Thanks, looks awesome.
Think I would have to change the wheels.

Is there any ride quality or height difference to air with the coils?

Cheers

When you compare the specs, air has slightly higher ground clearance in off road mode. But bugger all differences.

I have driven air and coil and I couldn’t really tell the difference. Air would be a plusher ride but I couldn’t tell…

If you see someone looking at it closely down our local shops that will probably be me.

Be good to see the 90 in the flesh.

Congratulations

I only chose it for the chuckle and as a dog whistle to Red Dwarf fans!

The wheels whilst good looking will be replaced with 18inch TuffAnt Kimberly wheels soon.

S M E G now with TuffAnt 18" wheels, rear brake caliper change (to fit the wheels), and Maxxis AT tyres.

The more observant among you will have also noticed the rear bumper cover and additional reversing LED lights (both from Powerfuluk).

Flew up to Ballina to pick this beauty up yesterday and drove it back down to Northern Beaches, SYD - just fantastic on the road and all around. Blown away by these new ones. Never owned an OG but been in/around some, drove a few, this is light years beyond. We are impressed.

Fabricated a switch panel from steel plate 0.75mm and covered with "carbon fibre" vinyl. Still waiting for 4 x rocker switches for light bars, front and rear and 7pin rocker for the Rhino winch (when I can afford it!)
The socket on the top right is a pass-through USB-C and USB-A female connectors so that Apple CarPlay can work seamlessly. Fast chargers to the side and a voltmeter below. 12V cigarette socket on the left and RJ45 passthrough for the UHF
More pics once complete!
Mounting brackets for the iPad running ExplorOz for offline maps and the Garmin InReach Explorer+ from HoldMyPhone. I'll probably get the console mount for the UHF later.
Installed the PowerfulUK LED for the reversing lights - they make sooo much difference. I couldn't see anything before.

Excited to be back behind a Land Rover after an Isuzu diversion.

Previously a D4, and before that a Defender 110 single cab.

Now, a MY20 Defender 110 SE D240…with Frontrunner rack, Rhino bar, Runva winch, Tuffant rock sliders and OEM RAI. UHF to be fitted.

Towing a Conqueror UEV440 and looking forward to the first outing soon - kids yet to name vehicle!

The Tuffant sliders have been a bit of a revelation. Solid construction without protruding too much. No barked shins so far! Highly recommended 👍🏽

I've just ordered a pair as a reward for just selling my old Defender. Tuffant folk were very helpful sending me some shots of how they look with the doors open.

Did you install them yourself?

jwb

The Tuffant sliders are great and make a good step as well.
Installation is straight forward but recommend having a hoist to remove all the fibre panels and a second person to assist.
The passenger rear inner bolts have a bit ambiguous instructions - M6 vs M10 but it becomes clear on re-reading and looking at the area.

Update - have been highly impressed following a couple of off-road outings. Will need to replace my existing iSi tow bar mount with an extended version to project the second bike bracket beyond the spare wheel, but that’s not unreasonable!
