McLaren F1, Without doubt, stop the debate, it cannot and will not ever be matched. Was at McLaren's new HQ last year, seeing a garage full of them being serviced made me cry, my sister even got taken out in one by Gordon Murray! They are THE only dream car....you are of course all able to have your own opinion's, not matter how wrong they are....Other than that, a showroom condition, 94 Classic Rangie with all the trimmings......

I'd still love one. I remember buying the Sports Car World that had the glowing review of the Mk VII and I kept that mag for years.

Nar, mine is going to be more powerfull and faster and sexier then all of them put together... its the Ultima GTR with a worked 1GZ FE engine in it .. thats a super smooth 5 ltr V12 toyota engine .. capable of over 2000 hp ... 1300 would be enough, The Ultima is currently the worlds fastest production car .. it was used as the muel to test your Mclaren engine and with a 650 hp chev, it is doing 0 to 100mph and back to 0 in 9.4 seconds... it hold the lateral G limit as well ... 0 to 60mph in 2.6 sec and only gets into second gear when in the 100mph run ...
and it is cheaper and looks so dam fine.......

I have a 1 UZfe ready to be played with for the GTR ..

The Alfa Romeo Brera - just been released here in Oz. When they introduced it on Top Gear a couple of years ago they advised parents with children watching to send them to bed as it is "sex on wheels". Actually not un-attainable as the 4 cylinder model starts at $69K and the V6 is not really worth the extra cash.

The Toyota MR2 is a stated Fiat x/19 copy :)

Dobbo: no they're completely different.

The TR7 is a just an ongoing evolution of the TR series Triumphs and is an entirely conventional layout: front engine, to bellhouse, then to box and on to the rear axle/diff/drive. But imho the TR6 was better, had a better donk; the TR 7 had a 4 cyl somethinoruther, but the TR6 had a nice (mechanical) fuel injected 2.5 litre six which was a brilliant piece of work for its day.

TR7 was a fixed roof, but towards the end of its life the roof came off and there was an optional V8 (aka the TR8, or the TR7V8) and the V8 was something we here are very familiar with, I believe....

The X1/9 runs a 1300 cc Fiat sohc donk which is right behind my left ear and screams to 9000 revs. The body is a Targa and the hard roof comes off, and is stored in the front 'boot'.

Bertone made the tubs and FIAT fitted the drive train which was pinched from the FIAT128. The 128 was asedan with regular front wheel drive setup, and they transplated the drivetrain to the middle for the X1/9. There are tie rods instead of steering at the rear, but its always fun with the tyre guys:

'Can you do a toe in toe out on all four wheels?'

The X1/9 is a nice piece, but the FIAT running gear has a bad habit of failing...

Do a google and you'll find 'em.

Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV

I thought it was about time I posted some photos of my on-road car. This is an every-other day driver and runs better than a new one. Restored and fully sorted with electronic ignition a tin-particle catalyst so it can use premium unleaded. Racing suspension from the previous owner makes it stick like s**t to a tea towel. I have had it for 15 years now and it's interesting when you actually own your dream car, you kind of stop buying so many car magazines. It's a good companion for the Defender - due to their extreme differences I never feel like I'm cheating on one when I drive the other car.

The TR6 was a pretty impressive piece of gear, and its today prices reflect that, maybe $25,000 for a goodie! TR7, well maybe $1....

Yes, I admit there is a blackout period from 1972 to the mid '90s - but I'm not even, necessarily into Alfas - I'm just into MY Alfa. Besides, all the reasons you might avoid an Alfa don't apply to mine. When I say it's fully sorted, I mean it's FULLY sorted. Only ever had two breakdowns in 15 years, and one of those was due to the mechanic. I periodically leave this one in the garage for weeks whilst I'm overseas and after juicing up the battery it always starts first time when I get home.

So there !!!

Cough cough.. number 3 is made in Oxford. On the same site as the classic mini was built. :) The panels are actually stamped by LR at Solihull.

Sure MINI is owned by a German company, but if that counts than the defender is american, and the Lotus is Malasian (although it was definately under English ownership when it was built).

Here is a car that I have always liked
766

767

Although not sure of there heritage any more (Italy?) and they are powered by a Chev motor (some like them)

Other than this the Ford GT40 gets me going,

pretty much any Yank sports/muscle car form the 60's-70's

Aussie cars from the same years

And last for some reason I have a soft spot for Pommie cars (not only Land Rovers).

Apart from the Griffo, I don't really like the sports cars from Europe (American/Europe Hybreds excluded)

ISO griffo and rivolta were interesting.

while we're ITALIAN,

I'll have a Maserati Bora and a Khamsin

but there's one i really do want and I could do it, maybe

Lamborghini Espada....

Lambos are apparently very reliable, due to their agricultural heritage, unlike some other ITALIAN things (which occupy my shed)....

White one is nice, tail lights are the same as a FIAT 124 from the late sixties, methinks..

Countach: one of my kids pointed out a while ago that the boot releases on the Lambo are the same as the ones on the X1/9. Cute piece of shiny leverage which hides below the B pillar. Parts bin Italy....

GMC, no, GMH, yes.

Mind you, most holdens are less australian that many thing. Even the commodore started off as an opel.

VladTepes
29th September 2006, 08:06 AM
Mate Holden's are pretty Oz. The first Commodore may have started as an Opel but the chassis was stretched and widened (I believe) to make it into a car that would satisfy Aussie buyers. Since then GMH has shown that (as does the local arm of Ford) they have engineers the equal of anywhere in the world, and better than most. This is seen in the overseas success of upmarket Commodore derivatives being sold in the Middle East and until recently the Monaro being sold as both a Chevrolet and a Vauxhall. So even though I don;t own any Holdens and probably never will I can at least give credit where credit is due. :P

To be specific vmorph the Holden op in Oz is as follows
HMC: Holdens Motor Company which builds cars
HEC: Holden Engine Company which builds engines
A long time ago before the local GM (not GMC) nearly went belly up, it was known as GM/H.

In the US GMC is referred to as the truck division and still exists in badge engineering of product shared with Chev (as primary 'other' truck badge).

HMC Aust builds the Commodore and derivatives
HEC Aust builds motors available to any other builder/manufacturer who wants the products. You'll find these engines in Daewoo vehicles, which Holden sells in Oz as the (current) Barina and its slightly bigger sibling.

BTW; given that there is a GMC in the tools business - we wouldn't have a same name (GMC), but it has surprised me that the name (GMC) was allowed - obviously GM never registered it in Aussie.

Names are fascinating VladTepes - now that's a name!

When I worked there it was General Motors-Holdens that was the basic Aust. based manufacturing Coy. There were a number of other associated or wholly owned companies that did ( or did on paper) things under the GM-H banner. Reporting was to General Motors Overseas Development Corp. (GMODC), of New York, and then to General Motors Corporation (GMC), of Detroit. The overseas auditors came "out a' Dee--troit" so I suppose through the myriad of corporate puzzles, everything was really GMC of Detroit in the end. Some more senior GM-H staff were employed by GMODC and, by Oz standards of the time, very well remunerated and well treated with fringe benefits. It was considered a great coup to get "on the New York payroll".

I'm glad someone mentioned the Miura.
The first true mid engined supercar, stunning to look at and something I'd like to own.

I did the Dutton Rally in '91 with a couple of blokes (a QC and his mechanic) that nearly killed themselves in one and totalled the car
It was a funny experience, I'd raced karts and was a part time Formula Ford mechanic and was invited to navigate a '65 Maserati Sebring 3500 GT (nice car) but it had reliabilty issues (Lucas Injection :D) So spent the rest of the rally in a BMW 330CSi, which was nice as it was 35*+ every day and the Bimmer had air conditioning. Anyway, after two weeks surrounded by exotica, you became very blase to it, and became really critical with the design compromises and lack of (Italian and British) build quality.
BTW, everyone bagged out the Countach (and their owners) ;)
Actually put me off exotic cars, and their ****** owners  more bloody egos and bull**** than anything else I've experienced.

A friend has a Series II E Type rag top, and it surprised me how competent it is for such an old car. Heaps of torque from the big six, and apart from the flex and scuttle shake up Greendale Rd Wallacia (It used to be a shocking road) was a lot of fun. I really liked it and they do look fantastic. One of his neighbous has one that is built up like a club racer, wide Simmons wheels and tyres, side exit exhaust, etc in BRG. Maybe not for the purists but looks the goods IMHO.

Used to want an X1-9 and an Alfa GTV, both a Bertone and an Alfetta, lusted after A9-X Torana's forever (best looking Oz touring car, ever) but would be disapointed with the performance these days, standard V6 Commode would damn near blow it's doors off.
Geez, the list is long. I could add Bolwell's Nagari and the insane looking Ikara, the Ilinga, a good attempt at an Oz GT car in the seventies and powered by the P76 V8, Ferrari 288 GTO, an old Jeep CJ6 to build up as a project and definately an MB Willys.
Current car I could put in my garage is a Lotus Exige, by the sound of things the closest thing to a Formula Ford on road and probably an Evo 9 or Sti, cause we have some nice dirt roads around here and a ....
Is there any funds limit on this wish list ??:D

He does pretty well all street machiners and high value restoration work. His toy is a 4.2 Jaguar e-type with a serious horsepower Chev. 350 all aluminium engine (ex sprint car, detuned for street) with alum. case close ratio Muncie trans. The body was restored to file finish and painted to 100 point show standard. Brakes have been changed beyond recognition, and lots of mods made to improve serviceability and accessability. An almost complete redesign of the electrical system was required. Knock off wire wheels from Daytona Wire Wheel, 7" in front, 8" in rear. The TR6 was a pretty impressive piece of gear, and its today prices reflect that, maybe $25,000 for a goodie! TR7, well maybe $1....

The last X1/9s (bertone) were tidy but had the fat US bumpers and a few other 'bits' added...

Mine is an original 76 model, for better or worse.

The later X19's were 1500 with 5 speed box which New Zealand of course got before us. I had a number of Fiats and never found the mechanicals a problem but they would rust away before your eyes if you weren't careful.
Some members of the NSW Fiat Club had 128's with engines stroked to this capacity and twin Webbers which went like s**t off a shovel.
