Hello Colin,

I found this youTube clip of a Bodger at Work which shows a treadle lathe in use and how to make a dibble stick. I recall you mentioned something about these lathes in an earlier post. I've made a pole lathe but I'm cheating by using elastic to pull the cord back rather than a sapling. I've seen the video you linked to and he makes it look easy, it takes a while to get the hang of moving the chisel in on the cutting stroke and then easing off as the timber revolves back.
He also made spurtles, a stick for stirring porridge.

Mine are 'similar' to those pictured above.
I don't have pictures of mine and they are trapped in the garage by the Dormobile (which hasn't moved for a while).

Interesting that 'bodging' originally referred to turning fresh cut (green) timber into poles for chairs but now it has a very different meaning......

I was surprised how broad each of the cutting tools were that the Bodger was using in the clip.
