When my 95 tanami landed in Australia am I right in thinking it would have been ' finished' with decals and knife girl and spoon set etc. Where would that have been? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200818/442cf5a2b882c8035d1b815342bddc65.jpg

The Tanami pack was probably added at Land Rover Australia's factory at Rydalmere

The blurb doesn’t mention that model coming with a girl

It was the 90's after all so it most likely did come with a free set of steak knives, Pretty much everything else you bought back then had free steak knives with it [biggrin]

Along with an exclusive map to Lasseter's reef.

Can't not post this. Les Hiddens. Gotta luv him. Besides there's a defender in it.

When it landed it would have been a standard Defender.

From what I saw when "All 4 Adventure" went to the Tanami looking for a lost plane wreck, the Deefer should've had solid tyres to avoid all the puncturtes they had. It seems a shrub grows there that when burnt leaves a spike almost as hard as steel!

Drove down the Tanami road back in 1982 or so, road in name only, very corrugated, but not a bad drive. Drove down from Top Springs, thru Halls Ck and down the Tanami to Alice. Top speed about 70 km/hr, would not like to leave the track without proper preparation. A few dead cars on the side of the road, I think the local indigenous people used them as spare parts shops. We drove through the Tanami from Alice to Halls Creek via Rabbit Flat in 1992. A great trip in a Holden SWB 2A and a county v8 rebuilt with series 3 body. One flat. In contrast to 2001 when we drove from Stuart HW to top springs and shredded 3 tyres.

Is Rydalmere still in operation?I doubt it but don't know, my contacts at Land Rover haven't worked there/retired nearly 20 years ago

As they don't make anything here they don't need a 'factory' any longer just maybe a distribution centre.

ColinI'm naively imagining in a dusty old drawer there are some of the Tanami decals waiting to be discovered.

Someone was looking at getting them re-made back in 2014 (contact lro11)
Mine were removed along with the 'Defender' decal, just the 'Tanami' left on the doors.

If you read through some of the threads the decals are either loved or hated.

Are yours faded/damaged or not there ? If there are no decals what makes yours a Tanami ?
Mine has the decal on the rear and the Les Hiddins hat & signature painted each side at the rear plus the Tanami on the doors.

Mine are there, quite faded, but 100% intact, so I guess that makes me lucky. Some of the photos they look very bright.

Not even a distribution centre. They go straight from the docks to the dealers. They have a head office and training centre which is now in Mascot, having recently moved from North Ryde.

Cheers,
Jon

As I typed that it crossed my mind that a third party would probably handle shipping and distribution to the dealers.
One of my boys briefly worked at the local LR dealership, they mentioned a training centre in Docklands, Melbourne.
Seems Kangan are covering some of the training Kangan Institute launches NSW training for Jaguar Land Rover apprentices (https://www.kangan.edu.au/information-and-resources/news/kangan-institute-launches-nsw-training-for-jaguar-land-rover-apprentices)

When my 95 tanami landed in Australia am I right in thinking it would have been ' finished' with decals and knife girl and spoon set etc. Where would that have been? The vehicle processing centre would have done the work. I'm not sure where the others were but the NSW centre at the time was Cartech on Cosgrove Rd, Enfield.
