Hi Guys and Gals.

I am after some info as i now have an issue with the gear selector not rotating, the engine will run so this rules out the footbrake switch as you have to put your foot on the brake to start the car, i can engage the emergency neutral red lever under the cup holder to move the car, which i had to do to tow the car home.

i believe it to be the gear selector solenoid so my question is can i just obtain a new gear selector and install it or does the new unit have to be programmed to the car or is it plug and play?

If i am completely barking up the wrong tree then please let me know

i am sorry if this has been done before, if so can someone send me the link to it please.

Regards
Sean

It is common unfortunately. You can buy a new unit and it will just work however they’re incredibly expensive (~$1600 IIRC). There is a repair guide if you’re keen with a soldering iron - bad solder joints i believe.

Yes..common..should have been recalled but LR Aus did not bother and replacement will cost you 2 grand or so..by dealer..as I found out..cause they have to diagnose first. ..then replace..then program (not).

I soldered mine using the AULRO guide...do a search..and fitted an emergency disconnect as per the guide. No probs since.

The lights around the knob also fail...so there may be a cheap working unit replced under warranty on the net if you can live without the light function.

Hi Sean, sorry to hear of your problem.
I'd be interested to know if, over the years/klms, you have been putting the (rotator) into "Park" yourself or have you been using the function whereby it does it automatically after you switch off the engine?
Thanks,
Cheers,

8 speed shift lock solenoid problems (https://www.aulro.com/afvb/l319-discovery-3-and-4-a/275343-8-speed-shift-lock-solenoid-problems.html)

Soldering is a bit tricky..need a powerful soldering iron.

Just adding mine to the list. Was doing nothing out of the ordinary. Parked, went inside, came out, started the car and stuck in park. I'm getting quite accustomed to the NRMA process now.

I'll have a read of the guide and see whether I am up for it or whether it is going to my indy.

As the question was asked in this thread, I always put the selector in park myself. I didn't even know it auto did that until a couple of years ago when I switched the car off by accident and noticed it changed it.

Cheers,
