I know off one defer where the owner has mounted a semi flex panel to...

Looks like it has some insulation which might keep the heat down.

Looks like it has some insulation which might keep the heat down.Heat is going to be the killer, if it isn't well insulated underneath then the panel isn't going to be all the efficient on some vehicles. Funnily enough, the JK is a good example, that bonnet gets pretty warm.

I've considered a custom solution in the past, but just never gotten around it.

I think that if you could make a visually pleasing bonnet mounted panel, that’s reliable, you’d sell more than you could make.

Speaking of heat. How do your house roof top panels keep the heat down? Is the 50-100mm off air space between the tin and the panel enough?

Yeah, air gap and I believe they have a bit more material in them to dissipate that heat. They don't have to consider weight on them as much as the more "portable" style panels.

Especially once you get to the flexible panels, they have no real solution for heat dissipation/separation at all. They would need a little help in this scenario to get the most out of them.
