There is no phased approach to the vaccine roll out in Qld's Central West. It actually makes sense when thought about.
"“There is no phased approach in the Central West,” the Longreach-based Central West Hospital and Health Service posted on Facebook.
“The vaccine is safe, effective, free and available for everyone 18 years and over in the community who wants it.”
The federal health department has now told The New Daily that, unlike in towns and cities, all residents of remote communities can get their COVID-19 jab."

India crosses the threshhold for daily infections, 100,000. India is vaccinating more than 3 million people every day.
India crosses the 100,000-case threshold for daily infections
India recorded its highest tally of new coronavirus infections on Monday (https://nl.nytimes.com/f/a/JLXjLSHC_-sCwV96L0jjtA~~/AAAAAQA~/RgRiTeu1P4Q_AWh0dHBzOi8vd3d3Lm55dGltZXMuY29tL2xpdm UvMjAyMS8wNC8wNC93b3JsZC9jb3ZpZC12YWNjaW5lLWNvcm9u YXZpcnVzLWNhc2VzL2luZGlhLXJlY29yZHMtb3Zlci0xMDAwMD AtbmV3LWNhc2VzLWluLW9uZS1kYXktZm9yLXRoZS1maXJzdC10 aW1lP2NhbXBhaWduX2lkPTMmZW1jPWVkaXRfbWJhdV8yMDIxMD QwNiZpbnN0YW5jZV9pZD0yODg4MiZubD1tb3JuaW5nLWJyaWVm aW5nJTNBLWF1c3RyYWxpYS1lZGl0aW9uJnJlZ2lfaWQ9ODQ1Mz Q2Njkmc2VnbWVudF9pZD01NDkyNCZ0ZT0xJnVzZXJfaWQ9Mzhi NjUzZjU5ZDhhNzg4ZDJiODAyOWQzNDlmYjA1ZjFXA255dEIKYG W1Zmtg3xjB8lIZcm9iZXJ0bGFrZTQyOTQzQGdtYWlsLmNvbVgE AAAAAA~~) as officials in the hardest-hit state reimposed lockdowns and warned that hospitals even in smaller cities were running out of beds.
More than half of the new infections were traced to the western state of Maharashtra, which includes Mumbai, India’s financial capital. It came even as India continues to vaccinate more than three million people every day, one of the largest efforts in the world.
State officials ordered all shops, movie theaters, markets and restaurants to close starting Monday evening and imposed a nighttime curfew. Critics say Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has sent mixed signals, encouraging people to attend celebrations for Holi, a major religious festival where hundreds of new cases were traced to, and campaign rallies.
Background: India’s vaccination drive has been a bright spot at home, but curtailing exports of vaccines has set back poorer countries that were counting on India for their doses.
Details: Officials announced Monday morning that they had recorded 103,558 new cases in 24 hours. After several months of declines, daily infections have surged tenfold since mid-February.

In the USA, problems with AstraZeneca makes the production of Johnson and Johnson more important
WASHINGTON — A top federal pandemic official warned last June that Emergent BioSolutions, the government contractor that last month threw out millions of doses (https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/06/us/covid-vaccines-emergent-biosolutions.html) of Covid-19 vaccines because of contamination, lacked enough trained staff and had a record of problems with quality control.
AstraZeneca was expected to fulfill the majority of the global need, but safety concerns have upended those plans. British officials said on Wednesday that people under 30 should not take the AstraZeneca vaccine, and authorities in the European Union said they had found a “possible link” between the vaccine and rare but worrisome blood clots. That makes Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine more important, experts say.
Between October and January, Emergent threw away five lots of the AstraZeneca vaccine — each the equivalent of two million to three million doses — because of contamination or suspected contamination, The Times reported on Monday.

Still, vaccine certification does pose some genuine ethical concerns. Most obvious is that there still isn’t nearly enough vaccine to go around, and access to it in the United States is sharply fractured along racial (https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/03/05/us/vaccine-racial-disparities.html) and class (https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/03/26/opinion/vaccine-hesitancy-deserts-oases.html) lines.
What’s the point? Some businesses, especially cruise lines, airlines and entertainment venues, are eager (https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/02/us/florida-vaccine-passport-desantis.html) for a more efficient and potentially more fraud-resistant tool for screening health status than paper documentation, whether to assuage the concerns of their workers (https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2021/03/28/vaccine-passports-for-work/) or the concerns of potential customers who might be averse to gathering in large groups with unvaccinated or untested people.
In New York, businesses have an additional economic incentive: Since April 2 (https://www.governor.ny.gov/news/governor-cuomo-announces-performing-arts-and-entertainment-venues-can-reopen-33-percent), entertainment venues there have been able to host up to 100 people indoors and up to 200 people outdoors. But if venues require proof of a negative coronavirus test or vaccination, those limits increase to 150 and 500. (Mask-wearing and social distancing are still required (https://www.nytimes.com/2021/03/03/arts/new-york-arts-reopening.html).)
“With an unequal health care system, limited vaccine access, and class-driven technological disparities,” Jacob Silverman writes (https://newrepublic.com/article/161868/vaccine-passport-excelsior-justin-amash) in The New Republic, “vaccine passports may end up being another tool for the rich to return to normal life while the people who are already being failed by our current systems of vaccine rollout find themselves left further out in the cold.”

The consequences of a botched vaccine rollout. What leader vaccinates himself, and not the most vulnerable?
“The fact that nearly six weeks after Scott Morrison got his vaccination we still have thousands of high-risk frontline workers unable to be vaccinated presents a risk to us all,” Mr O’Brien said.
Only 16.7 per cent of the government’s vaccine target has been met, meaning essential workers who missed out are still being exposed to the virus.
The federal health department has not said how many aged-care staff have been vaccinated yet, despite initially saying it had planned to complete Phase1a within roughly six weeks.
Until all aged-care workers receive the jab, there’s a risk the virus could leak into nursing homes, which, as Victoria’s second wave illustrated, could lead to disastrous consequences. (https://thenewdaily.com.au/news/state/vic/2020/09/12/st-basils-chairman-stands-down/)

Intranasal vaccines the next step in COVID vaccines.
In a collective display of scientific advancement, the Covid-19 vaccines from Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson seem to be astoundingly effective at preventing severe disease and death from Covid-19. All are intramuscular, meaning they are injected into the muscle tissue. Once the vaccine materials seep into the bloodstream, they induce the creation of antibodies, which then circulate in the blood throughout the body, protecting some of the most vital organs and creating what’s called systemic immunity. This immune response protects the body from serious illness and death, but the response only builds after the virus has fully entered the body.
Their ability to protect the human body from Covid-19 illness is truly incredible, but the SARS-CoV-2 virus still has an entryway into the body left unprotected by the vaccines: the nose and mouth. Those two gateways, and their ability to transmit the virus, are what mask mandates are all about. Face coverings have been shown to impede the spread of the aerosol virus, protecting their wearers and those around them from infecting each other.

Indian death toll from COVID not being fully reported , says German News Agency DW. From DW;
During the week between April 18 and 25, India reported 2.24 million new coronavirus cases (https://www.dw.com/en/the-covid-variant-from-india-what-we-know-so-far/a-57313664), the highest number recorded by any country in a seven-day period. It also logged 16,257 deaths, almost double the 8,588 deaths recorded the previous week, according to Health Ministry data.
India has been logging global daily records of over 300,000 cases for the last five days (https://www.dw.com/en/why-are-covid-cases-surging-in-india/a-57300436). The country saw 352,991 daily new infections and 2,812 COVID-related deaths in the past 24 hours.
Altogether, 195,123 people have died while 17.3 million people have been infected with the virus in India.
These numbers are staggering, but experts and epidemiological modelers believe that the real number of COVID fatalities could be much higher than the deaths recorded by health departments nationwide.
"The distressing scenes of patients dying in ambulances and bodies burning on pyres outside crematoriums and even on pavements across cities and towns clearly show that the tragedy is far greater," Anoop Saraya, a private doctor, told DW.

The EU sues AstraZeneca over delayed deliveries of vaccine. From DW;
"Germany, France and Hungary were among EU states that were initially reticent to sue the company, mostly on the grounds that the move might not speed up deliveries, diplomats said, but eventually they supported it.
The announcement comes as commission president Ursula von der Leyen suggested earlier this month to never do business again with AstraZeneca for its future vaccination campaigns.
Former German defense minister von der Leyen said the EU would only buy vaccines using mRNA technology — such as Pfizer and Moderna — for the next round of jabbing drives.
"We need to focus on technologies that have proven their worth — mRNA vaccines are a clear case in point," she said.
Another senior EU source said: "It would be better to write off AstraZeneca altogether for now and build a vaccine portfolio around other EU-approved jabs."

They survived COVID, now they need new lungs.
Try to imagine: You go to the E.R. with a cough. You’re not even sure that you will be admitted. Days later you are intubated. Consciousness ceases. A month or two pass and then you wake up with hoses in your neck and you learn that transplant and all that comes with it is your only option to stay alive.
How does someone who has never known what it is to have a chronic disease, whose only frame of reference is a healthy life before Covid-19, come to terms with this reality?

The one tiny mistake by WHO, that helped COVID kill. The difference in the interpretation of the definition of droplets, and aerosols, led to a huge mistake. To combat droplets, we wash our hands. Often. To fight infectious aerosols, the air itself is the enemy. That means expensive isolation wards , and N95 masks for all medical personnel. And purpose built quarantine accommodation. We've been doing it wrong.

Vietnam and their struggle with DELTA. Despite a low vaccination rate overall, [ 15 % ], authorities decided to open up the south of the country after daily cases receded. The lockdown in Ho Chi Minh city was strict, no one was allowed to leave their residence for 3 months, and food had to be arranged and delivered by soldiers. In May last year Vietnam had seemed to be beating the virus, with 300 deaths reported. Now, the WHO reports the death toll is 20,000 out of 840,000 cases. The Vietnamese Government was late in ordering COVID vaccine doses, possibly hoping a glut in the market would bring down prices.

Six out of seven Covid cases in Africa are going undetected. Most tests are being done on people with symptoms, but much of the transmission is being driven by asymptomatic people , meaning many fly under the radar. The WHO is supporting countries that interrupt disease transmission, by funding teams in communities who find possible contacts of people who test positive and offer antigen rapid diagnostic tests. They will be using a strategy pioneered to successfully eradicate smallpox , and control Ebola, called the " Ring Strategy", targeting anyone living within a 100 metre circle around a new confirmed case.

Scientists in the UK have said research indicates unvaccinated people should expect to be re-infected with COVID every 16 months, on average. Those who have had COVID should not rely on antibodies from their infection to protect them, as a study done on health professionals has shown that some of those with moderate levels of anti-bodies , who have been in some cases previously infected and double dosed, have gone down with symptomatic infections. It all points to booster shots being very important to boost waning immunity in vulnerable people.

George Washington ordered his troops to get vaccinated, there was quarantine, lockdowns and vaccine passports during the American Revolution. How about that;
When George Washington Ordered His Troops to Get Vaccinated - Defense One (https://www.defenseone.com/ideas/2021/10/when-george-washington-ordered-his-troops-get-vaccinated/186287/)
QUOTE;
"No politician we know of at the time considered such measures un-American. In May of 1796, Congress adopted, and President Washington signed, the first federal quarantine law (https://archive.org/details/lawsofunitedstat03unit/page/314/mode/2up?view=theater). There wasn’t much controversy. In 1799, Congress passed a second and more restrictive quarantine law (https://www.loc.gov/resource/rbpe.22401000/'sp=1). President Adams signed it without a flinch.So apparently it’s not certificates, quarantines and vaccine mandates that are un-American, as some maintain today (https://twitter.com/Jim_Jordan/status/1434978332513292291).
The argument that individual rights trump the greater good is un-American, or at least out of step with American tradition. It’s an attitude that the founders would have put under the encompassing banner of “ambition (https://yalebooks.yale.edu/book/9780300182804/ambition-history).”
“Ambition” comes when individuals are blinded by their little—or large—egotisms and personal interests. They lose track of higher goals: the community, the republic, the nation. In the most severe cases, ambition turns anti-social."

In Frankfurt, Germany, no one can enter a bar, restaurant, or indoor pool with out proof of full vaccination, or a negative test result in the last 24 hours. Testing centres are almost at every corner, with results available within 10- 15 minutes. Testing is free for children under 12. In shops & on public transport , Medical standard masks are required, [ only surgical or FFP2 medical grade masks are permitted.] Oktoberfest was cancelled out of safety concerns. So what? you may say. The fact is Germany is managing to control its COVID epidemic, and bring down the number of cases & deaths. England & the UK, on the other hand? while Germany is keeping its society and economy running , and looks to be in a strong position coming into winter, cases in the UK have risen alarmingly, and further lock downs may be necessary to take the pressure off the NHS.
The UK's experiment with herd immunity was a dismal failure, and they are at the crossroads again. At this point in time , only Scotland Wales & Northern Ireland have masks mandated for indoor venues, England leaves it up to the individual. Waiting & watching doesn't work with DELTA.

Denmark's COVID surveillance centre has said that at this point in time, there is nothing to indicate it is more contagious, resistant or pathogenic. Here’s a round-up of this evening’s Covid news.
The UK has had its highest number of daily Covid deaths reported since late February, as another 293 people have died within 28 days of a positive Covid-19 test.
UK government is increasingly worried that hospitalisations and deaths among double-vaccinated people could rise (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/nov/02/no-10-concerned-as-45-million-eligible-people-fail-to-get-covid-jab-boosters) due to waning immunity as an estimated 4.5 million people have failed to get their booster shots despite being eligible.
China urges citizens to stockpile daily necessities (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/nov/02/chinese-urged-to-stockpile-amid-ongoing-covid-outbreak), prompting panic-buying, amid surging vegetable prices linked to recent extreme weather, fears of supply shortages and an ongoing Covid outbreak.
Romania broke its daily death toll record, after another 591 people died from Covid. It has lagged behind on vaccinations and is well below the average within the EU.
Greece has announced new restrictions on non-vaccinated people and increased fines for non-compliance.
Public health officials in Ireland say that its case numbers are at their highest point since January, as another 3,726 were registered – 70% higher than a week ago.

Some news from the UK. Prof. Chris Whitty, the UK's C.M.O. said about Omicron "There are several things we don't know, but all the things we do know are bad ". Prof. Neil Ferguson's group at Imperial College has said research has shown hospitalisation rates for boosted people may be 4 times higher for Omicron, than Delta. England is " highly likely" to have 1,000 to 2,000 daily hospitalisations by the end of December. With no further restrictions taken, models point to at least 3,000 daily hospitalisations daily at the peak next month.
In the UK first dose - 89.5%
second dose - 81.7 %
booster or third dose- 48.8%
