View Full Version : Feasibility of wrecking Discovery

I have the opportunity to buy a D1 from a wholesaler for $4000.
Its a 4 door with injected 3.9 and ZF auto. The drive train seems in reasonable condition. Chassis is good, interior is good, body has one fairly large dent in the RH rear quarter panel.

What I really want is the 3.9 and injection set up for my County. How feasible would it be to sell the rest as parts so as to get at least $2500 back so the engine and injection set up costs me no more than about $1.5k? I'd like to sell the remaining parts cheaply at say 50% of wreckers prices so they go quickly but without giving them away.

Remaining parts of value I can think of would include:
ZF auto ?
LT230 transfer ?
front and rear axles ?
body parts?
interior?

Any ideas what the above would be realistically worth and what if anything else would be easy to sell for reasonable $$?

Not sure as I am not into Discoverys, but I would ring a few wreckers and see what they are charging for the parts. I would'nt tell them what you are up to as they will view you as opposition.

When I am chasing a part I get the new price from people like Repco. ring the wreckers see what they want ( and prices can vary by big $$$) then have a look on ebay see what is going and for how much.

This way you should get a fairly accurate idea as to what the part is worth, then set your price accordingly for a quick sale resulting in lots of happy Discovery drivers and $$$$ in your wallet, and a diesel in your County.

The transmission and axles are the real value parts. Especialy the LT 230.
You should come close to what you want.

I'm in Gympie, just north of the Sunshine Coast in QLD.
Its always harder to sell parts that cant be posted when you dont live in a capital city..........
I havent bought it yet, still trying to determine if its a feasible proposition but I will definitely post in the for sale section if/when it happens.
