Just wondering what magazine subscriptions you all have out there...

My Australian 4WD monthly 6 month ran out this month and I'm contemplating another subscription with them... considering that out of most other Oz mags they at least seem to cover landys every now and then.

I've checked out some of the UK mags, but would prefer some ozzie stuff.

Nothing on 4WDing. Have thought about LRO monthly from the UK. I do get two military mags a qtr but only cause I advertise in 'em. I have purchased the Australian off road mags from time to time but find most of the stuff in them plain useless. Obviously I don't own a toymota! The trip articles only seem to have a fraction of the info I feel I need.

G'day Bluetongue :)
I get both Land Rover Monthly and Land Rover Enthusiast magazines on monthly order from my local newsagent, both are from UK and are about 6 weeks behind, they can be got by subscription Ex-UK :) they deal only with Landies from Series Vehicles up to all the Current Vehicles, they usually include, Touring,Trialing, Overseas Travel (Expeditions) and have good Technical and Service segments, books run to about 200+ pages and is good reading, not particulary cheap but have got some very good adds for specialised off road gear.;)

I get Land Rover Enthusiast from the UK via subscription. A lot cheaper this way, about $6 per issue delivered to your door instead of $11 odd at the newsagent & as Uncle Ho said, about 6 weeks earler!

One of those mags where too much Land Rover is never enough. :D

I get LRO (and Silicon Chip and Analog) through my newsagent. Expensive, and I consider dropping it nearly every issue, but have not done so (yet) as it seems to have something interesting most issues. I have had a lot of trouble with overseas magazines in the past so this is why I go through newsagents for these.
I also get (not Landrover related) by subscription Australian Geographic, Scientific American, Choice, Computer Choice, The Land. In adddition I regularly look at on news stands (and occasionally buy if anything is worth reading) Linuxformat. The Australian 4wd magazines I have given up even reading except occasionally at the barber's!

I used to get 4x4 Australia and Overlander reguarly, but a trip to the Tojo dealer saves me flicking the pages. I don't even consider the 4x4 of the year worth a read.

I get LRO and LRE - both on subscriptions given to be every year by my misses :D

I also subscribe to Aus 4x4 Monthly - for the local scene.

Huh? You don't like the fact that Land Rovers have won both mags' awards in recent years?

Check out your local library - ours gets both 4x4 and Overlander.
Fresh ones stay on the shelf for a month and then they go out for loan.

A rarity seldom enjoyed. I just feel that they bag LR continuously. Have at look at the new car section. For years they just typed in the same script relating to poor build quantity word for word. probably still do.

Yep, that hasnt changed. I subscribe to 4x4 Monthly cos some of the stuff they throw in is alright, and Rooths column amazes me with its pretence at ockerism."Strike me pink, its off to the rubbidy dub, Swampy Morris has just sold that old dingos donger and is shouting the bar. That hasnt happened since Strangely Brown got that huge compo payout from his parents for circumsising him.etc.."
Incidentally he also has written for Two Wheels mag for the past twenty or so years and portrays a completely different character.

I don't subscribe to any, and am cutting back.......but have bought too many LRO, LRM, LR World & LR enthusiast when I can get them. They do have some great articles, good technical bits and it's all LR, which is good, but are too pommy biased understandably, and have too many ads, and too much crap on "greenlaning". BOORIINGG.
But I'm the DH, because I still buy the things:rolleyes:

Aussie mags I only get occassionally now, 4x4 Aus, and Aust 4WD mthly. They have got better towards LR which is good. Some of their stuff is just try hard dribble, and their trip reports are often too full of fluff and uninteresting dribble. The good ones do make me want to grab the keys and drive off into the horizon though!!!

Once in a blue moon I might buy a 4x4 mag if an interesting article has been mentioned on the AULRO site.

Also a number of caravan and motor home mags if there is something of interest in them.

I was subscribing to all three Australian mags but let the Overlander and 4x4 Australia one lapse, will most probably do the same when 4wd Monthly runs out, just getting sick of them, the same old crap every week. I do buy Land Rover Owner INternational every month, should really subscribe to it, its cheaper that way. Matt

Trev... when I first started checking into purchasing a landy (about a year back now), I remember reading probably the same mag, it gave a run-down on all types of 4wds and about the defender it wrote a couple of things like "... build quality is truly awful... mirrors shake like crazed jellys when doing over 100k/hr..."

... bugger those guys, I actually think that's what attracted me the most to the defender :D

Hey thanks to everyone else for their feedback... Sounds like the way to go is get a subcription to one of the UK mags and purchase the ozzie ones from time-to-time when they look good enough to get.

Cheers

Actualy, I have been buying military vehicle mags lately. 4WD is now looking a bit soft. I am thinking more like 6WD or even better, TRACKS!
A nice little GKN Scorpion. Do 80kph on tracks.......

And I always buy Viz.

I don't bother with any of the local mags unless they have a particularly interesting article in them. Generally only read 2 or 3 of the articles anyway. Rest are pretty boring.
Always on the lookout for the pommy mags when I go to the newsagent. Read them from cover to cover, even the how-to sections on Series Landys (which I'll probably never own). Funny the difference in interest factor, although I agree with FenianEel about the greenlaning articles.

Australian 4WD Monthly is the only one I subscribe to, about the best of the Aussie 4wd mags. 4x4 Australia have lost the plot over the last 4 or 5 years and should probably be renamed NissOta ARB Soft Roading 4x4. I was an avid reader with every issue for about 12 years.
At the end of the day new 4x4 articles are nice but overdone as are extrem 4x4s that most will never have. Focus needs to be on regular 4x4s and mods with projects and easy mods most people can do.
Get some of the Pommy 4x4mags sometimes.
Reg get Australasian Dirt Bike, Motorcycle News.
Used to get Australian Geographic, one of the best mags out, sometime overgreen but genuinely a great read. Will have to resub that one.
Burkes back yard sub (free from Telstra) not as good as Better Homes & Gardens though.
Religiously used to get Street Machine, Street & Strip etc and have a huge collection of them sitting in my cupboard from issue 1 up until mid 90's. Anyone wanna buy em?

I've been subscribing to Aus 4WD monthly for about 4 years now. I think I have every issue.

There was a 'Pootrol' patch there that every issue had a GQ Pootrol with a full-of-it owner with wankey tyres and ridiculous lifts (good to laugh at when it falls over on the track :D  ). I went through my older copies and they always had a LR in almost every issue and the articles in the earlietr days were more factual and interesting.

Roothy's articles are good amusement, plus he's a Queenslander so he can't be too bad bar the fact he drives a rust bucket 'Cruiser:mad: .

Overlander mag is okay, a pity the forum is full of tossers and know-it-alls. 4X4 Aus is too soft cock and anti-LR if I ever did see it.
