Its good to have 2 clear uses for 2 distinct sets of tyres rather than having to compromise with 1 set providing they don't have to be swapped too often.

That's why I am sticking with the Nitto Terra Grapplers. They are very quiet on road, even after 60,000km on a set, and still fine off road for my use. After the dreadful noise from the BFG K02's on my D4 once they started to wear I was not going to do that to my RRV or D5! I have just removed the BFG's from the D4 and put a set of road tyres back on the original 19 inch wheels so that I can have some peace. If I want tough tyres for a rough trip I can put the 18 inch wheels and BFG's back on and then put up with being deafened for a while, even on gravel roads.

Bob, try the Falken Wildpeak AT3W. It is a much better tyre than the Nitto TG in my experience.

Decided to paint the calipers black and added Range Rover decals - much better than the factory look.

I am venturing down the same road, with I think(?) the same car as you. I have a 2017 L405 SDV8 AB in Carparthian grey. It started its life in the UK, before being imported to NZ by a small independant LR specialist dealer where I bought it. I have had it almost two years now and have done some minor things - side steps, mudflaps, all driveline oils replaced as well as a new oil cooler and transfer case - latter two under warranty.

Anyway back to the point, in the back of my mind I have had a little long term project to swap out the 22in turbine wheels and continental rubber with a 20inch wheel and some AT rubber (I'll probably keep the turbines for a special occassion lol). To this end I have secured some 2nd hand 20inch LR rims in good nick and am getting these sprayed black so making progress. I have also been looking at some options on the AT rubber. What I have not got my head around is the TPMS situation. Ideally I would like the option to be able to interchange the wheels as required so either not run TPMS with the new setup if I can do this without warning lights flashing up at me OR try and secure some new TPMS for the 20inch wheels. How did you approach this? Also any thoughts on how your Nitto AT have gone?

I bought a set of genuine LR TPMs off eBay and fitted them to the second set of wheels and have found as soon as I swap between sets of wheels the TPM system resets / links perfectly each time.

Thanks CS Brisie really appreciate that. I had read on some forums you may need a tool to change the sensors from sleep mode so was not quite sure if this was neccessary. I have used LRParts.net in the UK for a few items over the last coulple of years and I have seen TPMS sensors on there for 25 quid each which is about $50 bucks NZD. The shipping is very fast but expensive. I'll check ebay as well. 20inch alloy rims are in process of getting the barrels painted and am still looking at AT tyre options.

Do you have a sensor on your spare and does this appear with the tyre pressure value on the instrument cluster? I had a issue with a leaking tyre on the spare when I first got the car and had that fixed as it was pinging a warning. I didnt notice at the time but I thought (?) previously it returned a value but it does not now. I think in fixing the service agents may have just put a standard valve on. I may have been wrong but now I am doing this little project it does make me wonder.

Your posts have been most helpful in visualising what the wheels will look like so when I complete mine I will post up.

No, not one on the spare(s) (I bought two spare 20 inch wheels as had planned some remote touring) - I dont think the TPMS shows spare anyway (on my MY17 VogueSE) from memory.

……. Oh and Tony the tyres have been excellent- well over 50000kms and plenty of life left. My wife and I are now used to the additional noise of what are certainly a more aggressive tyre… just turn up the music a fraction [emoji23]

Now it is time to organise the TPMS set and also choose the tyres, but before that want to land on the size. I am weighing up 275/55/20 vs 285/50/20. The latter seem to be a bit closer to overall height (slightly higher) of the 275/40/22 turbines I currently have on and I thought may fill out the wheel arch more proportionally, but not sure if they will fit on a 8.5J 20inch LR rim and when I source a spare whether they will fit in the spare wheel space - height wise. Anyway will keep researching. If you have any other photos you can share that would be great.

Well finally got there after ordering some tpms valves on eBay and fitting 285 50 20 Falken Wildpeaks. Will see how they go [biggrin]

I'm a bit of a newcomer to the l405 world and have just agreed to buy a 2016 sdv8 fitted with 22" wheels. I've read somewhere these have a 20" caliper so just wondering how much clearance there is with a 20" rim. Any thoughts welcome.

The normal LR 20" rim will go over even the fat Brembo's,, ask me how I know....[wink11]
Have had 265/50/20 Toyo AT Open Country for just on 3 years and 40 odd K kays

A D5 19x7.5 with 39.5 offset will also go over the big front callipers and the large diameter rear discs. I have 255/60R19 GG AT3 for std diameter but 255/65R19 as fitted to the L663 is also an option. 19" is a plated option for even the last of the L405, albeit 235/65R19.
