Hello

I am replacing the radiator, water pump and expansion tank on my 1995 P38 HSE 4.6 after rebuilding my engine and I found a plug sitting beside the expansion tank along the side of the body that doesn’t have anywhere to go. I understand that there may be options that I don’t have on my particular vehicle, however I can’t seem to find anything on Rave to show me what it might be for.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

I tried to see any wiring of those colours on RAVE for your year of your car, but I couldn't. Thinking differently, there could be another connected wiring of the same colours on the mirror side of the engine bay, as the looms were copied in different countries, or could be completely different in left and right hand markets. Is there a purple/white connector attached to something in the left had side of the engine bay? Like cruise control?

Secondly, what this may not be connected to in that engine bay location could have been the heated windscreen, which we didn't get in Australia. Is that why it was spare? I'm just guessing though, if you can match a connector in the loom diagrams. If the front screen heaters were installed, I would expect more than one contector or with heavier wiring for higher current.

probably a LHD redundant thing...

I doubt it's a LHD thing as the harnesses are LHD/RHD specific. The heated windscreen wiring is fitted under the plenum & is on Aus cars too.
It could be for the coolant level sensor which was planned for the car but didn't quite make it in the end. It made it to the early owner's handbooks though.

I have recently removed my fog lamps (so can pass RWC) one had a crack in it, they were attached too a loom like you showed (One near where you mentioned) and one on the opposite side, there is a clip for them to sit in
