Yep, 2004 is a dog of a build... had 70 odd machines KO'd by this. Had to revert to previous. How we've been getting around it is to setup another admin account on each machine then manually running updates whilst logged into that account. Also have seen that it appears to affect accounts that are online/ms moreso than local accounts.

so, did you force the install of the update or did it appear in your system updates?

Hmm, I'll have to keep an eye on this.

I postpone the updates for as long as I can but the bloody thing will still eventually auto update. [emoji35]

I had no problems with the update but have friend who looks like they have the same problem. Have lost all emails. I assume because a new user profile has been created.

Have never rolled back an update before. Was it as simple as what this picture makes it out to be.

er, no/yes!
once you can click on the rollback button its easy--
but

this error stops you dead.. no access to windows at all.
I got a command prompt from the bios and created a new account , but then windows tried to fix itself and gave me access to restore/reverse the update.

forced Inc ?

I dunno,,, I have 3 other Win 10 machines running here,, so its a good bet one of them started it and then I just asked the rest..

The next question is,,
what do I copy so when this fails again I can just copy the uncorrupted files across?

Hmm, maybe my problem. As soon as I log on, I’m immediately signed out. I can’t access the PC to create a new user account so I can copy all my docs, etc.

The “fixes” mentioned on the ‘net don’t work.

Hmm Ok, might not be the same problem then. I haven't seen the machine myself to see what's she talking about, just a long sms rant about "****ing Microsoft update blah, blah and now I've lost all my email".

Reverting to an earlier build didn't work for me.

At the moment, I'm just using my Linux machine but that's a short term solution. My most used programs are on the Win10 machine - as are all my passwords.

I can't even access my NAS boxes from Linux 'cos I can't remember the passwords. EDIT: Have found out how to reset passwords.

Ron,

Remember! the thing to do with your passwords is to write them down on a Postit and stick it to the front of your monitor! (/s)

Beats the custodial facility I went to where they were on the back of the keyboard in artline.

Apologies. I have not yet updated to 2004 and now will not until Microsoft issue 2004.1.
So my RAVE CD still works because I have not yet updated.

My sympathy's to all. After Microsoft's disastrous 'fall update' of two years ago which totally stuffed my Win 10 PC with an un-resolveable (for me) ..... "unable to determine if sufficient HDD space" as opposed to insufficient HDD space I gave Win 10 the flick and 'upgraded' to my old Win7 PC. Best thing I ever did at a home PC level [bigrolf]. Internet, eMail and low end photo editing being my main requirements Win7 kicks arse [bigsmile1][bigsmile1]. Gave Ubuntu a go and it's brilliant but I'm too old / lazy to learn a new OS so for the time being am sticking with Win7.

At a corporate/business level not so easy and I feel for those that need to make Win 10 work. It's hard to explain the catharsis of upgrading to Win7, it's like a huge weight is lifted from ones shoulders, you now control what is loaded/upgraded and when to what is already a very stable platform.

I am very happy with my 'steam age' computing [bigsmile]

Two out of 4 machines have updated no problems,,
one hasn't attempted yet and one failure

Whilst "two out of three ain't bad" might be OK for Meat Loaf it won't augur well for Win10 users if this rate of failure is representative. The last thing the poor long suffering Win10 user needs is a repeat of the build 1603 fiasco or build 1907 :(

Good luck with the last one Pedro :)

I upgraded to 2004 a few months ago because of an unresolvable error with an earlier Win10 version, appearing to be a corruption. The only issue with 2004 was that my Windows 2012 Live Mail no longer ran so I changed to Thunderbird (touching wood as I type).
