View Full Version : RRS electric seats into D4

I've just installed RRS seats into a 2010 D4. The drivers seat has the memory switches and circuit board mounted in the seat.
The passenger seat works fine, after some judicious rewiring, but the drivers seat works on the 2 second burst method.
I've read all the posts but am having trouble as the wiring colours for seats don't match the car; RRS to Disco 4.
My current understanding is that the red and slate twisted pair from the seat go to SJ45 on the car, but I have no idea where or what SJ45 is and which colour wires go where on it.

I don't have any good info to help unfortunately. Do you have a wiring diagram from the service manual to reference?
How'd the fitment go otherwise? I was considering this if/when the current manual seats get a bit tired. Where'd you pick the RRS seats up?

The physical fitment is easy, just bolt in. The electrics are reasonably easy. If you get D4 seats, the passenger one just plugs in, but the drivers will need a rewire. Just search DISCO4.com for instructions.
However, if you get Range Rover Sport seats, like me, its a bit more difficult. They bolt in the same, but the passenger needs to be wired the same as the drivers D4 seat.
The drivers seat will only operate in 2 second bursts unless, I, or some one else figures out how to connect the seat to allow operation of the memory module.
Thats why Im trying to track down the location of SJ45.
I have access to wiring diagrams for both the D4 and the RRS, but off course the wire locations and colours don't match up completely.
I got my seats from a wreaked RRS.

My RRS seats are all electric but not memory and they operate longer than 2 sec bursts. Do you have your seats plugged into the correct power source? Mine are straight 12v not switched.

Curious, about how much for a couple of RRS seats?

Hmm. I noted that on my D4 if the vehicle is moving I have to press and hold the memory position to get it to go completely into place else it only moves in short bursts. If I’m in park or the car isn’t started it’ll complete the new position with a single press.
Probably nothing related but worth a mention.

Apparently the 'burst' issue only occurs with the memory seats. Something to do with input to the memory module from the mirrors, hence my search for the elusive SJ24.
I paid $650 for both seats, $20 for cleaner and leather cream, and thousands of dollars for the elbow grease. I consider them a bargain.

It’s a safety feature, in case you accidentally hit the memory setting of your 5 foot wife when driving, or she hits the memory of her 6 foot husband when driving. Genders, heights and marital status’s can be swapped and changed to cover your particular circumstances.

Not me! I've just learned to live with it.
Still the best mod I've done to the D4!
