Hi all, apologies if the answer is already somewhere here (but I couldn't find it).
I've just installed a new temp gauge (VDO) in my '85 diesel County and the sensor that was sent (after supplying my engine details) has a much smaller thread (see attached pic that hopefully worked). The VDO part number for the one sent is 320.002 and I did find a thread on here earlier where that size was recommended to somebody else. Is anybody able to tell me what's going on then? Any chance there is different housings? Did the army ones use a different housing and then when I enquired the dude at the other end thought to himself something like "Oh yep right the old ex-army engines...'
Also, would a plug type arrangement of some sort normally come with them on the end there?
Any help would be great.

thanks, Peter.

Yes the army engines used a VDO gauge and sensor whereas the civvy ones used the same sender and gauge as the V8 engines.

thanks Bearman, much appreciated, so even though I have the diesel Isuzu I should be sourcing a temp sender suitable for the petrol V8?

The sender is M16x1.5. The VDO part that fits directly is 323-417.

They just sent you a generic sender not one specific to the engine.

I just replaced my gauge and sender with a VDO mechanical type. The sender appears the same thread as yours. I used a M16 X 1.5 to 1/8th adaptor. The thermostat housing thread is 16 X 1.5 and the sender is 1/8th. Adaptor should be available at any reputable auto shop.
