You don’t see many dog trailer behind cars....Actually I’ve never seen one.

Might be a more stable platform....reversing would take some practice.

Yes, the freight companies wanted to carry more freight, employ fewer drivers and buy fewer trucks.

hmm,, not really. B Doubles were brought in to stop the use of road train trailers that wandered too much for Metro areas.
same amount of freight, same amount of drivers.

Seen a dog flat top around here some months ago. Also quite common setup for header comb trailers, often towed by a 4wd/light truck

same amount of freight, same amount of drivers.Not really. B double standard limit 62 tonnes gross, road train 72 tonnes.
Lots of "road trains" on metro freeways/arterial roads nowadays. Have Long Vehicle signs instead of the road train ones.

The old CRB (Country Roads Board) used cabins built on dog trailers for their lunch rooms.
