reverse switch

the son of a guy at work has a 130 ute with a faulty reverse switch. where bouts is it located, not sure which year it is, if needed i will get him to ask his son

On top of the gearbox at the back, near the remote selector housing (where the gearsticks bolt on). You can get easy access by removing the centre cubby box or centre seat, and then taking out the access panel.

In typical Landrover fashion it works the opposite to most switches like this by switching +ve, so you should have a live feed to one of the wires when the ign is on.

I found the cause of the fault when I removed the panel you mentioned. The wires leading to the switch were melted together so I replaced them and tried the switch but there was a dead short in the switch which obviously caused the problem.

No worries Kelvin, glad I could be of help.

If it's not too late, tell your mate the Defender switch is about 3 times the price of the switch for a Disco. The difference between them is that the Defender switch is physically larger and screws in all the way, without any form of adjustment, whereas the Disco switch is smaller and has a long threaded section you screw in the required amount until the switch operates properly, but doesn't "bottom out". The Disco switch comes without the necessary locknut, but it's not hard to track one done, and works perfectly for a fraction of the cost.
