Found a few jerrys the other day in good nick, but a fair bit of light surface rust on the inside, as I dont want that in my fuel system, any ideas on how to get it out.

1 litre of diesel and a length of chain, give it a good rattle around.
Don't put water in as it will degrade the red 'paint' lining. (maybe this has already happened).
Keep a spare filter handy as insurance :)

Ensure all fuel used from them goes through a filter funnel or the filtered filler neck. Inspect those afterwards to see what they have picked up.

You could also take them to a radiator repair shop and have them chemically cleaned. The issue then is that you have a lot of exposed metal on the inside of the can - which will probably rust again. To fix that, you should probably use POR tank sealer. But with the cost of those kits - you might as well buy new jerry cans! Haha.

Hi Crump
If you really need to use jerrycans upgrade to the modern plastic ones.
No Rust,No paint,No leaks the old steel ones arent worth messing with.Lookout for plastic ones at swapmeets,Ive seen them as low as $10 and look as good as new.
