Hello,
 Please direct me to previous threads;
I have a D4 HSE 2014.
Driving includes outback Australia beyond Bourke - Broken Hill and planing a Central Desert Birdsville track trip.
I would like some better lighting and also camp lights.
I am concerned that the battery is quickly drained when Camping and may need a second battery for camp LEDs.
Where is the best place to put a 2nd back up battery?
I have looked through the posts on lighting upgrades and found some great ideas and information.
However my specific issue is I would like to know what kind of plug the high beam uses in order to piggyback onto it for extra after market LED lights and Light bars. 165169
 Its not HB3 or h4?
Looking into the engine bay there are quite a few plugs that are unused?
What is all this stuff and how do I find a manual or info on this?

Getting the cables, for (CB Arial and lights) up to the roof is awkward placing them behind the pilar.

 must be a better solution?
Also do the 2014 HSE have LED light bulbs factory and could I upgrade them to better ones?
I was looking at some STEDI products.
Thanks in Advance
Tom

You can look at the Traxide website Home Page | TRAXIDE - RV | Traxide - RV Lithium Batteries (http://www.traxide.com.au/) for an under bonnet solution, or this thread Lithium Battery Install Instructions (https://www.aulro.com/afvb/l319-discovery-3-and-4-a/276570-lithium-battery-install-instructions.html) for a 3rd row lithium option. There is also the option of making up a battery box so it can be removed when not in use. I would strongly suggest a solar blanket or similar to keep any battery system topped up while at camp.
Have fun
Rod.

There's info on AULRO on fitting spotties and light bars..just search.
I fitted 2 spotties to our D4 to improve long range lighting but frankly the std lights are quite good...hid etc. Bracket are available. Search on line.
Lighting is like audio. The more you have the more your eyes adjust to block it out..and the longer it takes to adjust from bright to dark.
Light sellers expolit this natural trait to sell brighter and brighter lights.
It's about getting the balance right for you..which is often age related😐

This is gold. I agree absolutely. I am a bit of an astronomer so this makes sense. I also dont want to waste money.
However I want to use side lights and camping LEDs for my awning and campsite. Perhaps off a separate battery is safest.

Thanks for this, I will take a look.
I noticed Battery Boxs.
Camping gear has come a long way since 1980s when I was last travelled out there seriously as a kid.
Now with all girls I have to make it as comfortable as possible to get them to leave the car!

A traxide controller and then 2 under bonnet options for the 2nd battery, in the aux tray next to the ABS module which has a size limit or cut a hole in the lid and fit an 85ah like i did, or in front of the main battery on a custom tray for a larger battery.
Easiest cable route is thru a grommet just to the right of the brake booster which then makes an easy path down the kick panel and into the channel under the plastic door sill pieces and along up into the cargo area.
I put a merit and a 12V socket into this little panel.
