My 2013 D4 has oil leaking from secondary turbo.
Dealer is costing replacement but expect mega bucks.
My question is can the turbos be overhauled or is replacement with new the only option?

thanks

I have had mine ‘overhauled’ / RE built.

Basically failed . Leaking again badly and both being replaced with new ones under warranty (warranty is on the rebuild)... I have to spot the cash for variation between new and the rebuild ones 18 months ago

Where is it leaking from? If out of the oil drain pipe bsck down to the sump, thats just a new drain pipe and 2 new gaskets, maybe 160 worth in parts and 2 hours labour.

If leaking internally, ie you're blowing oil out of the exhaust and also into the intake manifolds, the bushing that the turbine runs in is worn and is now oversized. Can be rebushed, but the tolerances are pretty close, and to remove, rebuild and refit, you're approaching new part replacement anyway.

How many kms? At 7y.o, depending on kms, say 170-180,000km, thats not too bad service life for something that spins at 30,000rpm evertime it operates.

Check around, a good independent should be a very reasonable alternative to dealer pricing any day.

Thanks for the advice. I'll call a couple of Melbourne Indi's and get a second opinion.

Which side is the secondary Turbo? I have a oil leak on the left side (passenger) of the engine, at least that is where I think it (if it's the only one) seems to originate.

It's the right hand side one (driver's side).
