Hiyas all - yet again [smilebigeye]
Have got to the point where I will be needing a serviceable oil filter in the near future. [thumbsupbig]
So did go find the one I removed yonks ago. Swimming in oil in a plastic container along with other external engine bits.
Haven't cleaned or stripped it out of brackets yet. So, Blanchards and Craddocks show it to be a split item with a paper filter and they have them in stock. Lots of UKP and months in Heathrow.
1. Does the original filter split?
2. Can I get a cartridge?
3. Is it all one piece, the centre rolled and swaged?
4. Is there a mod for 54 plus filter, or any other.
What has everyone else been doing?
Really not looking forward to plumbing in a modern spin on and then hiding it.
Cheers

If it is the early type ( bypass filter) that was fitted to the passengers side of the engine than it dose not split it is a throw away unit. I fitted one of these available from the Series One Club Shop UK which takes a screw on filter. The filter it uses is a Ford Focus 165276 165277 165278 If is the later type used on the later 2lit motor, these had a full flow filter with a replaceable element , these were mounted on the drivers side of the engine.

Depending on use, why not remove it, blank holes and change the oil more often ?
Castrol 20/50 5L, comes up on special Autobarn/supercheap quite often.
$12.00 oil change.
Or modify something like this.
Remote Oil Filter Kit, Oil Filter Relocation kit,3/4"-16 & M20x1.5, Ford, Nissan | eBay (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Remote-Oil-Filter-Kit-Oil-Filter-Relocation-kit-3-4-16-M20x1-5-Ford-Nissan/322082306764?hash=item4afd99facc:g:WEUAAMXQnFhTklu s)

165328 165329 I see what you are saying . The 1st photo is the original type filter that Craddocks sell which is a throw away unit & cheaper than the 2nd type that has an aluminium housing & replacement cartridge which is more expensive. The problem with booth types is to get replacements they may not be available in Australia & are more difficult to change were with the type I have the filter is available here & is easy to change. I can not see how how the cartridge type clamps together , if they are using the bracket clamp to hold it I think it would be a pig to change & get to seal but it dose look like an original.
That is just my two bobs worth.
I just had another look at the Craddocks site , it looks like the bottom housing screws into the top housing but could not find any reference to replacement cartridges unless they are the same as the ones in the 2lit filter from the photo they look the same size. ?????

Thank you all, it has been quite helpful [bigsmile1]
May have it sorted after visit to local speedshop. Can get a spin on head which with adapters from my pipework that will take a stock toyota filter :0) Will just need to scalp the OEM device and drop machine and bracket it to accept the toyota filter and head. When painted and tiddlied up will look original at first glance, and I'll have easy filter affordable filter changes.
As to changing oil at short intervals, that too [thumbsupbig]
