110 Cargo area LHS ideas anyone?

I like to keep things simple. The drawer works for tools and camping, there is recovery gear in that wasted space under the carpeted ply on the right and I have a carpeted box under the second row of seats all the way to the door (amazing noise cancellation!).

On my previous 110 I had a fixed box left of the fridge for fuel and other stuff. For now here I have nothing and just stuff things. What would you do there? Bear in mind that the Engel slides forward and I am (still) quite able to stand on the towbar and access every part of the cargo area.

One thought was to make a full width carpeted box 200mm wide and 250 high behind the cargo barrier, with a hinged top and to keep fishing gear etc stored. That would then impact on what I do on the side I am asking about

First thing I did was to build two 20mm SHS frames to bolt to each side of the cargo area. This enabled me to (a) secure items and (b) to utilise the space created between said frame and the outer skin to house all my auxiliary battery electrics.
I then secured my fridge and brew box to the LHS frame and made another compartmentalised box on the RHS for camp ovens, wash up basins, Thermos, tarps, pegs & ropes and a small fire grate.

I've also made and fitted an internal roof rack that hinges down for access, thus giving me a fourth level of loading soft items such as bed rolls etc.

This system has developed over 5 x 110's, almost 40 years and many kms of travel. The boxes/drawers don't have fancy bearings to slide on, were the first thing built and are still going strong.

I hope this gives you a few ideas to develop a system that meets your needs.

I built a system many years ago.
The drawers came with it and don't run on fancy slides.
I made a new top then a two part system that goes in through the door, moves to each side then screws together in the middle.
Fridge is set back otherwise it's difficult to get behind it, in front is a wash bowl, billy, pots etc. I take this out and put underneath the car when I get to the fridge.

4 big plastic storers and two Jerrys for water on the right with a camp oven tucked between them. Above 3 chairs, a folding table, landing net and a few other bits & pieces.
Above the fridge are two drawers one behind the other, these contain cups, plates, knives, forks etc.
To the left is a Coleman petrol two burner stove, a hotplate, petrol lantern, Bush Kettle and petrol single burner.
I had some luggage made to fit up top, three bags for clothes etc.

The lower drawers have chains, a hand winch, tent pegs, gloves, tools etc.etc.

There is a poly pipe attached to the roofrack legs for fishing rods.

It has rear seats making it a 9 seater, the backs are still in there and lose me a bit of space.

Worked well until extra kids came along...

EXtreme could curl up next to the fridge. I have no such plans. Too extreme for me.

A number of people use netting for internal roof racks but I prefer to have gear secured, not swinging around as happens with the nets.

I don't know about extreme curl up... My setup for sleeping in the rear is very comfy

Sorry about the photos, they were the correct way up when I uploaded them....

I sleep on the RHS behind the drivers seat. I'm 183cm in height and have enough room when sleeping. I enter via the LHS rear passengers door and sit on the single seat to remove my boots, etc before swinging around and climb into bed... Been on numerous solo trips now and this works a treat ;) I have storage under the bed that I can access a few ways. I've left the RHS rear seat in place just in case I need to pick up the kids from school as I can easily just slide and the bedding back in the cargo area and just lift up the seat so the kids can sit in the rear. Once the kids are finished school, I'll remove that side seat for more storage

Even though you can reach everything from standing on the tow bar, you would really benefit from a Gullwing door on the side. Very quick and easy to flip up.
If you want to further maximise the use of the space along that side with a Gullwing fitted, you could even build a storage unit from the wheel arch to the roof.

Yes, you need gullwing.
Imagine getting your hand stuck reaching into the esky and find yourself unable to get the beer out of the sliding window. :)
