Hi all,

There's a lot of play in my steering box (and it's not the other steering components) and it's time I fix it.

A thread from 2010 mentioned All4x4spares can supply adwest boxes so I've tried emailling them but havent' heard anything back
Where else can supply a box or does anyone have any tips on where to get it rebuilt? If that's even a good option?

Cheers,
Niels

Thanks, they have Adwest listed at $3300 and it's out of stock so hoping they get back to me and that it's a bit cheaper!

Did you ask about second hand recon? You never know..

Another option is triumph rover spares in Adelaide.

I bought a new one in March this year and paid $2145 including GST from British Auto Parts also an Adwest box, was a much better deal than All 4.

I think KLR Automotive have new Adwest boxes but I don’t know if they are reserved for their power steering conversion of Perenties.

Their website shows reconditioned boxes at $1250.

Over the last 10 years or less, it looks like brand new boxes have gone from $800 to $1500 to close to $3k!!! Wtf.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'm going with a rebuilt exchange from TR Spares in Sydney for $650 ready tomorrow which comes without a pitman arm allowing me to easily convert to the discovery style arm and replaceable balljoint. Looking forward to less sloppy steering!

allowing me to easily convert to the discovery style arm and replaceable balljoint.

Is the Disco arm suitable? I ask because the KLR Automotive site says (in their spiel about the arm they sell):

Pitman arm to suit the 4-bolt steering box fitted to Perentie, Defender, some RRC. Does not suit the 4-bolt box fitted to the Disco 1. Comes with replaceable ball joint (Ball joint kit available as RBG000010). Lock washer for the nut is STC874. Replacement nut is NT614041L.

See Pitman Arm (Drop Arm) with Ball Joint suit 4-Bolt Steering Box - KLR Automotive (https://klrautomotive.com.au/d-arm-ball-joint-rh/)

Thanks for that, but it's a bit different as the arm comes in a conversion kit from Gwyn Lewis with a new drag link and shock mount, designed to go on defender
