Changing out the oil in my sals rear.
It has a Detroit locker and high tough axles.... 85w 140 or just 80w90(penrite)???
I’ve had 85/140 in it but is there any benefits ( bearings are oil fed)<—- maxidrive mod

Penrite 80w90 gear oil is what I use in both of my Sals - 1 standard diff, 1 with a True Trac.

Sals runs hot, pretty sure rick recommended 85/140 for it.

Advice seems to be based on diffs with cast covers with poorer heat shedding ability

With no cast cover I think I’ll go back to 80w 90..... same oil through the whole driveline.... big difference between a Detroit unlocker and an arb Locker ... no specifics or warranty violations on the Ashcroft in the front

Thanks Dave ....seems to me that having the same oil throughout the drive train is a better way to go...I’m not towing and if it’s over 35c I’m not driving for hours lol
Interesting that the oil use in an emergency is so broad
