I'm 35 and deaf as a post and I can't hear it ...:D :D
However I am smart enough, and cunning enough to know that I can set my phone to VIBRATE and if someone rings me I get this vaguely pleasant sensation and no one but me knows what is causing it. If I choose I can even answer the phone :)

I cant hear it although my laptop and external hard drive are quite noisy. All those years of music so loud the doors and windows rattle has to do some damage I suppose. I realised my hearing was not as good as it was about 8 years ago at Christmas whilst shopping in a large shopping centre. My daughter asked me where the singing was coming from. I needed to walk about 50-70 metres closer to hear it.

Played it in Quicktime and WMP, couldn't hear it.
Played in another player and heard it loud and clear.
Go figure.
Turned out same result for me, wife, and 1yo twins, so maybe not just me.

Cheers,

Great story about the technology - kids turning something that was supposed to keep them away from shoping centres in the UK into something useful - reckon that's a sign of the playstation generation getting useful.
Anyway - 20 people in my division varying in age from 21 - 49 and we call all hear it.
Did anyone actually try it on dogs? Did they go nuts?

Clear as a bell - but a bit hard since my wife's vacuuming and is generating much the same sound -

Torture in the state school system (I like it)
I'm 30 and can hear it, and thats with years of rave parties and metallica concerts, strangely enough I cannot hear the missus when she's whinging about project cars taking up valuable space in the driveway:D

The kids hate it most of them had to leave the room. I can hear it just but its not enough to irritate me, just enough to know when its playing and when it isnt. Matt

I think sitting in a room for half an hour with that playing would be worse than the cane. matt

Yes, I agree do remember the scene from "A Clockwork Orange" eyes pinned listening to the classics watching antisocial behaviour
The cane can have a lasting impression if administered properly by a sadistic old Bstard. The flick at the end was the best part guaranteed to blacken at least three fingernails. I only got it the once but I can honestly say students back then had more respect for any authoritarian figure they met than some of the little bush lawyers today.
The teacher off Pink Floyd"The Wall" If that was one of my teachers I'd definately eat the meat off my plate

Yep !!!
I'm 36, can hear it clearly despite years of loud music, Defender driving, shooting etc. Curiously I do from time to time (more than I;d like) have to ask people to repeat themselves as I missed what they were saying. I blame kids today, what with their mumbling and such !
There are certain things I have real trouble hearing:
"No you can't buy a workshop trailer"
"What do we need another Land Rover for?"
"No you can't buy any gun stuff"
"No you can't go shooting / driving we have (some boring thing) planned instead".

I was thinking that this may not be the actual ringtone - more like on that closesly resembles it so that people can fear what it sounds like if you get my drift.... i dont think i do

Mate you hit the nail on the head there, kids today know that besides booting their backsides out of the school there is very little you can do, and because the parents of these kids often dont care they welcome a suspension because its a holiday. Matt

No I can't hear it.
But the frequency response of my computer's speakers only goes up to 16 kHz and My Hi Fi speakers only 22 kHz...pearls before swine.;)
As for my ears well who knows?

I tried listening to the sound last night on the laptop I was using with MusicMatch Jukebox which is set as default player. I thought I must of been harder of hearing than I thought but tonight listening to it on my other laptop running Ubunto and the default music player the sound is as clear anything.

I'm starting to get the impression that it depends on your speakers. I'm just using the laptop, and the speakers are only fairly average (they are probably the size of a 50c piece) because my wife could hear it. She can normally hear me f^r7 2 rooms away

Well being old, we brought the dog in. he's only 18 months old, and, zip! I don't think the speakers can reproduce the sound in that range.

The more I think about this, it is a great idea. Have it in all malls, rail / bus stations, car parks, toilet blocks, alley ways etc after 7pm each night till 7am.
Fit them into adult night clubs, resorts, bars.
The oldies could hang about in complete safety.:D
This could be the saviour of old peoples homes and villages etc. Don't know about the animals though? :(
