Numberplate globes

Hi all! The globes have blown in my number plate light (Defender 1995), I've found the correct globes on several LR websites in the UK, but none list the specific size and watts. Does anyone know what they are so I can get them myself from my local shop? Thanks in advance.

I don't think there's anything special about the bulbs.

I just checked the owner's handbook and it says 4 watts and they'd be readily available at any auto parts store. Looking at pix, I think they'd be Ba9s bulbs.

Thanks, that should be easy to find. Don't have a handbook right now, waiting for it to arrive in the mail so I didn't have much to go off [biggrin]

Yep, I just replaced mine with some eBay-sourced units (local supplier), LED, BA9S, about $8 to my door for a pair.

if you want a longer lasting and brighter light, there are fully sealed LED options available at the bigger auto shops. Woudl require a bit of a modification to the internals of the housing though.

I used a complete aftermarket light fitting that was very close to the Land Rover one in design, it may have been from Narva?

That was due to the lens becoming discoloured and the internals were corroded.

I went for a small an easy DIY project, The light coming from the number plate light was so pale because of the dust collected during summer drives on unpaved roads. Obviously the seal has deteriorated over the years and wasn't available new, just had to smear a bit of silicone to fill the cracks and make a new weatherproof join surface

As for the bulb I had on hand one of these tiny inexpensive 12v warm light bar (3 SMD LEDs), made it weatherproof by using heat shrink tubing on both ends of the bar. The size of the light bar fits exactly in the glass element of the number plate light.
