No High Beam

Hoping someone might be able to help. High beam works if you hold the switch on but if you click to high beam you loose lights. Lo beam works fine. Can't seem to **** a relay that controls this like on the Jap vehicles..

Any ideas???

$88.00 for a new master light switch from fourwheeldrives.com. Mine's just gone as well. . .same as yours, low beam OK, but high beam is no go.

Guys before you buy a new switch check the connections of the blue wires. Found with mine when lights only worked when you flashed the high beams it was the outer most blue wire. Minor twist of the pin and still working a year later. They seem to work loose sometimes.

A '94 Disco will have the headlight switch as part of the stalk. I'm sure Discos run headlight relays, unlike the Defender.

Check your fuses first as the power supply for the headlight flasher is usually from a different source than the headlight switch.

If the fuses are OK, the problem might be in the dipper part of the switch but you might want to do a bit of fault finding first. I can't say I've come across a problem with those stalks.
I don't have a Disco workshop manual but, from memory, blue/white is low beam, blue/red is high beam & blue is the supply. Try hooking up the blue (supply) to the blue/red (high beam). If the high beam works, then it's your stalk with the dipper switch at fault.

I guess that my problem is a little more definitive. I can throw the switch to the headight position and it just jams there. You have to actually reef it to turn it off.

If they are like mine then there are 4 fuses in the main fuse box. Mine is a mixture of standard and upgraded wirring. I also have 4 relays plus the factory relays:eek:

The best thing you can fit to a Defender is some headlight relays. The headlight switch & dip switch are very common warranty claims. Often the standard 60/55w globes are right on the amperage limit for the switches.
