Did an oil/filter change on 3.6 diesel, all seemd to go well.
Went for a drive next day and about 100k's out noticed an oil smell when I pulled up.
On looking underneath could see clean engine oil dripping off underneath. Not heavy, but certainly oil where there had not been any previously.
Checked oil levels frequently on drive home, but level did not appear to drop much, and oil underneath was not heavy, but steady drip, mostly on passenger side of vehicle.
Checked around filter top side of engine, but no sign of leaking, removed filter checked seal, all appears to be installed and sealed correctly.
Jacked up and removed front passenger side wheel after seeing that oil appeared to come from around front suspension and to flow down from about underneath the air cleaner on that side. Oil did not appear to be running down from off "V" in engine (where filter leak would likely run from).
No oil leak signs topside, but oil appears to be flowing down from approximately area under where air cleaner box is, (See pics) and then blowing back under vehicle.
Can anybody suggest a component that might leak oil over that side of the car?
Is it possible I put too much oil in (was told 9 litres with filter, and dip stick appeared to confirm that) and that this leak is a consequence of overfilling (perhaps)?
Further checked, could see oil on underside of aircleaner box, removed it and can see that oil is throwing from front of engine, on to rear of both air intake pipes, on to cleaner and then working its way down.
Possible that I slightly over filled oil level and that made it easier for oil to flow out a front seal.
Just have to work out which seal has died.
