I am stuck at step 3 in the haynes manual:

"Slacken and remove the 5 bolts and washers securing the halfshaft to the centre of the hub"

Ok. But how do I hold the wheel against rotation?

Opposite wheel on the ground and handbrake on.

Also ....

Method #1 : Rattle gun will remove them easily.

While many may disagree with the brand, the cheapie Ryobi impact gun has been fantastic. Hasn't let me down yet .. so no need to buy an expensive one.

Method #2 : Helper simply holds the brake pedal while you crack them undone. Once loosened, no need for the brakes.

Method #3 : if you already have it it up on stands and have a sturdy jack to lift the vehicle, eg. a trolley jack or similar.
Chock the brake disc with a jack to put a small amount of pressure under it. Not too much and risk flipping over! [tonguewink]

This is the situation where you needed that cordless rattle gun you always wanted, but never thought you'd use that much.
It is Christmas afterall, so it'd be a great pressie in the making! [biggrin]

Thx Phil, Arthur - that helps a lot. Expect more beginner questions - I have a few things to do for the NZ inspection:-)
